Aprilia has announced a recall on the Factory and R models for a complete engine change. This does not affect all sold bikes but check with your dealer to see if yours is on the list.

I believe that a bad batch of con-rods 'slipped through' and was fitted to number of engines. Apparently some of those engines were in the bikes the press rode at a racetrack launch. Bit of an egg on face moment for Aprilia.
But the problem is a known one, they know the engine numbers affected and it's being dealt with.

Indeed - though I thought the original explanation about the faulty batch of rods suggested that they had been confined to the press launch RSV4s
Now it seems they are also on a number of production bikes and also the Factory version (though it does use the same engine).
It will all be well and truly sorted before the second-hand values fall sufficiently for me to own one!
