getting peed off now
a while ago i put up a post when my bike was holding back when i opened it up,but it put it self right and i'd forgot about it. today on the way back i started it up the rev counter was flickering around the 0 mark and the clocks had reset them selfs which its never done before, same thing when i opened it up cutting back let the throttle off fine.i dropped it down a gear to over take a car got to the side of him cut out dead i rolled it in to the side with a load of abuse thrown at me,i got off took my helmet off pressed the starter, nothing i could hear the fuel pump kicking in, but no clicking on the solinoid or starter. messed about with the kill +side stand switch no joy, had a fag talked to it nicely half an hour late it started and got me home. could it be that i've deristricted the air box+ blue flames but i have'nt cut the wire to the ecu? untill it packs in for good i'm not going to find it and a trip to ireland is looming.any ideas.
Wouldn't have thought so but there's an easy test.... do the snip.could it be that i've deristricted the air box+ blue flames but i have'nt cut the wire to the ecu?
Sounds like a dangerous problem whatever it is. Glad you're ok.
Without any similar experience on mine I don't have an answer for you but I would start by checking out all the sensors that can cut the engine; such as sidestand switch. I believe there is also a 'tilt switch' that can go wrong.

GregDUk was having same problems. Turned out to be the sidestand switch. If its not that, it'll be yr kill switch I bet. Simple to fix problems but bloomin dangerous at the wrong time!
The dash reset could be your battery on its last legs. Same happened to me. New battery and optimate all the time and I've never had any problems since

I had similar problem with my old Yam. I was betting my house on electrics but it turned out to be some cr@p in fuel line blocking it completely (and randomly). Have that checked too, before you spend loads. Basics first.
BTW do the mod. 30 mins of soldering and you've got electrics sorted. I thought I couldn't do it, and I did it with no probs.

Yep - I agree completely - poor connection (intermittent disconnect) is the most likely cause - certainly for the instruments reset.xrphil wrote:just a thought but if your clocks have reset, I believe that is something they do when the battery is flat or disconnected.
I would start by checking your battery connections, just to make sure they are not loose, and have good clean contact.
probably not that but worth checking.

It's the battery leads! (either that or some strange electrical interference as you get anywhere near Mansfield!)
Had almost exactly the same three weeks ago, first time out on the Falco since the off before Christmas, just south of Ollerton, heading for Newark. Pulled in to take off my sunglasses, got back on bike, everything DEAD! Like in your case rev counter just flickering around the zero and all clocks reset. Just like you, could just hear pump, but no click when hit starter.
Played with cut out and side stand switch, no joy. Took seat off, checked battery leads, looked OK and not loose, but took em off reseated and tightened up and all OK again. Carry dash reset sheet in seat hump, so reset everything and rode back home with no problems.

i think i've found it, i started the bike up this afternoon and checked the battery terminals + the earths they both seemed ok, i then disconected the side stand switch pulled and tugged at the wireing with no problem, back in position it works fine. i then used the kill switch to stop the bike went to start it nothing, after messing about for half an hour i found if i pulled the button out and held it out it started so i'll strip it tomorrow and see if i can do any thing with it or replace it, im in love again so thanks for your ideas.
