Nearly pissed myself laughing! Pedrosa's little problem with (supposedly) the aunch control not working (last year?) and looping his Honda pales into comparison to high-siding it on the warm-up lap!
Was really rooting for Stoner, coming back from illness and putting in the results he has over the last couple of races takes some doing. But of course, you need to start the race!

Another view is that it may be down to the tyres not being fully warmed up. Other crews put extra covers over the tyre warmers to stop the strong (cool) winds cooling them down on the grid, Ducati did not bother.
It reminds me of something many years ago, when my wife used to work for RMC (Readymixed Concrete).
She worked at their East Midlands Head Office in Sheffield and at that time they decided to go into Motorsport sponsorship, and decided to back a young Ulster racing driver called Kenny Acheson, who had done really well in Formula Three the previous year and had moved up to Formula Two and was being tipped to go all the way!
He ended up getting 2nd in the British Championship that year and eventually moved to F1 with RAM Racing, (Who?), Jacques Villeneuve, Jean Louis Schlesser and Jonathan Palmer were other drivers in this car
RMC couldn’t afford to sponsor him anymore in F and the RAM 01 was pretty crap so he hardly ever managed to qualify, he later moved to Sports Car Racing and had a 2nd at Le Mans in 82, a 3rd in the Silk Cut Jag in 91 and another 2nd in 92.
Not a particularly glorious career, but not bad for a Brit.
Anyway, going back to his first ever race sponsored by RMC. It was at Donnington and RMC had decided to rent the best corporate hospitality/sponsors suite at Donnington. It was on the end of the block at the Redgates end with a covered area with a bar etc. and even better a big roof garden area with a brilliant view and all the noise and atmosphere. Me and the missus had it almost to ourselves as all the senior management and brown nose piss heads stayed down in the bar and got pissed.
Before the race we had been down in the pits and talked to Kenny and his dad, (his manager) and they had told us how confident they were as Kenny loved Donnington and they were expecting a podium at least.
Kenny qualified on pole in dry qualifying and then it rained for the race, he set off on the warm up lap and went straight off at Redgates!
What a way to start with a new major sponsor, off at the first bend in the warm up. Even though he eventually finished 2nd in the Championship, RMC never seemed quite so interested. They had rented the hospitality unit for the whole year, but not many people went. It was also available for bike racing and hardly anybody wanted to see that, other than the piss heads who just went for the free booze and food, which meant that me and the missus got to go to the bike meets and watch people like Ron Haslam and Mick Grant in total luxury!
I suppose somebody had to do it!
