I saw this on BBC 24 this morning, it's very good that a scheme like this is up & running as it will get more bums on saddles.
Not sure about one of the selling points though, "it's not very dangerous anymore, only 500 riders died last year".
I like this from the maintenance section of their website
brakes and brake fluid – make sure you have plenty left on your brake pads and remember, brake fluid runs out and doesn’t re-fill itself. No brake fluid equals no brakes!

From what I've read on other forums, newbie riders need more of the basic stuff!
When I did my training it was the old ACU scheme - 8 weeks of lessons once a week, we did a classroom bit then went out and practised, debriefed and more practice, and the course lasted 8 weeks - with any week repeated if we or the instructors thought we needed to. Included was a fair bit of info about basic maintenance. A lot of the new bikers now have no idea about changing oil or adjusting the chain - one recently posted about a problem which some of us diagnosed as chain needing adjustment so he decided he would have to go back to the dealer to get it done!

The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.
