A work in progress part 2

#1 Post by Falcopops » Mon Oct 12, 2009 12:27 pm

A quick recap for those of you too lazy to read part 1. I'm trying to get some LED indicators inside the O/E mirrors on the Falco. In part 1 I was able to get the glass out, drill a hole for a wire and get the LED's in place.

So here's how I get the wire through the mirror mounting arrangement.

A couple of shots of the thing mounted onthe subframe without any fairing, but that will make no difference.

And here's a couple on the bench for a clearer look.

Nyloc nut washer and spring removed. Careful placing of the spring helps to give a bit more clearance to the wire.

Plastic spacer removed

And here is the bottom of the stalk with the ally cap modified

The before and after modification parts, right and left respectively. You can clearly see the slot in the domed spacer and the slot in the ally cup.

Hopefully you will see that I've reamed out the lip in the domed mounting block to get a bit more clearance through the innards. Again the left is the modified piece.

I got this wire at a local electrical store 3mm coax stuff fits nicely through the hole in the stalk and is flexible. I can articulate the mirrors a lot more than I thought I would be able to do, although I don't think the wire would last too long with a lot of large movements.

So the next thrilling installment is when my new 12v LED's arrive and how the hell I seal the whole lot against the wet!
