RiderSite Suspension Setup Training Day

#1 Post by D-Rider » Wed Sep 16, 2009 12:02 am

Some of you will remember that I had hoped to get Griff (Aprilia Performance) to come to the Norfolk weekend to run one of his Suspension Setup Teach-Ins.
Well, that didn't work out but Griff is still keen to get a bit more involved with us, pass on his knowledge and help out.

The idea that he and I have been discussing is to run a Suspension Set-Up Day on a Saturday in the coming weeks before the fair-weather riders pack up for winter.

The event will almost certainly take place at his place in Fazeley near Tamworth.
There will be a small charge for this of £10 - mainly to cover the cost of putting together the workbooks that Griff will use to teach us about how to get our suspension set up. TBH I think this is a small price to pay to learn how to do this properly.
It's also a great opportunity for a forum get-together.

This post is a bit of a pre-announcement to gauge whether people are interested enough to give up a Saturday to meet up to do this.
Maybe people could indicate their interest and which of the Saturdays in October they may be available (though obviously Griff's availability is going to be key)
The Saturdays are:
3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th & 31st though the 3rd is unlikely as we'll not pull it all together in time.

Once we've progressed this a bit further I'll advertise it to the whole forum but thought that first I'd get a feeling for whether this is a "goer" from the Aprilias.

For those that don't know Griff, here's his potted history:
Finished his first restoration of a motorcycle @14

Started working in motorcycle trade @16

M/c workshop manager @19

Numerous motorcycle racing teams privateer and professional national teams until 25 years

Started training to be a teacher then realised you cant hit the kids so finished that diversion. (his words)

AA patrol for 5 years motorcycle specialist

Honda uk Technical training officer for 2 years at chiswick and heathrow

Aprilia UK technical manager from 2002 till feb 2007

He then i decided that he'd like to try and turn his hobby into his profession and built custom cars and tweeked bikes for a living.

Griff has now evolved his Custom Resto & Race business into Aprilia Performance

I'm in - for pretty much any weekend other than the 3rd

A tenner seems very good, might even get the bank manager to sign off on that one :smt002

I'd like to join in please Andy. 3rd is Jule's birthday so I don''t think I'll get a pass out for that day. Other dates look fine at the moment.

I can't do the 10th, but any other sat is good for me, well worth a tenner.

Hi Andy, I'd love to come on this gathering.
But with shift work, i'd only be able to make the 24th comfortably or if it was the 10th it would have to be in the afternoon as i'd be working nights on the Friday.

Damn....
You're all just a little bit too far away for me to attend.
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

OK a bit of an update:

Now that I'm back in the country I'm trying to get this sorted.

My intention is to aim for Saturday 17th (I'm not free on 24th or 31st and would like to be there if I can).

Today I tried to ring Griff to see whether he can do 17th (or which other date he can do).
Well, I've found out that he's on holiday 'till next week.

I'll try again then and let everyone know the outcome as soon as is possible.

Just didn't want anyone to think this had all been forgotten about ... it's still on the agenda and we'll know more next week.
