Advice sought on Ohlins rear shock ebay purchase!

#1 Post by Olig7475 » Wed Sep 09, 2009 3:12 pm

I won a Ohlins rear shock for my Falco on ebay the other day for £201. It arrived today and the spring is in a bad way (see pics). The seller, motorcycle-recycle, failed to mantion the condition of the spring so I emailed them to see what they had to say. They apologised and offered a full refund, they explained that because the shock had only reached £191 (+pp) they were not prepared to offer a partial refund as they would normally reach £250-£350, but they are happy to have it back!

My question is this, did I really get such a bargain!!!!! is it worth me hanging on to it and getting it refurbed to sort out the spring, or should I send it back and get a refund to bid on another?

Cheers

get a quote from Darren at MC technics he can re spring and refurb the ohlins for you, depending on cost will answer "have you got a bargain" remember "caveat Emptor" Buyer beware.

It is not just the spring that looks in a bad way! Doesn't look a bargain to me.

That shock looks shot to fek to be honest

Darren at MC Technics at Stowmarket is veeery good, but even with him rebuilding it wont be cheap.

That's absolutely minging mate - get a full refund! Jesus, that is shocking!

I got my Falco specific from the bay and paid 225 - it was like brand spanking new condition.

Yep - paid about 200 notes for mine with linkages (£210 if memory serves). I was told it had 10 miles on it (prepping a race bike on the road and they totalled it in the wet). When it arrived, condition was consistent with the story.
OK, you won't get a bargain like that every day but that one of yours doesn't look good. Maybe some of it is just cosmetic ..... but I'd not pay that for it.

I'm just hoping it's the photo but I've never seen a beige Ohlins spring before!

Get your money back ... a better one will turn up.

:smt005 :smt005 The colour isn't that bad, the picture was off a phone!!! It's gone back though, thanks for the advice. I got a quote from Reactive in York to re-furb it £145........no question it had to go back. To be fare they were really good and have offered to pay the shipping cost back so I'm not out of pocket.

Looks like I might miss that sussie set up day now DR, will keep an eye out for a replacement thou.

Cheers all

Just sit tight and bide your time Oli. I paid £200 for mine then waited for the linkages to come up. I think you were right to send it back , there will a much cleaner one come by soon.
