Been trying to get hacksaw boy reconnected to RS for over a week.
We have established that the prob is at his end and not with the site but that is no consolation and any suggestions are welcome.

Tried logging in from all possible places, enter username and password, get taken to the main page where my username and password appear in the log in bit ready for me, click the log in button and immediately get returned to the main page with my details already filled in.
Tried deleating cookies and emptying temp internet file, no difference. It started after I installed firefox, so can only asume that's where the problem is, but I'm not going back to IE as it's too slow and crap. If I can find a passing six year old to come in and sort it out for me I'm sure it'll work properly. Annoying, but then life is. Thanks for trying.

Just a thought, but could it be a firewall issue? I know we have problems occasionally connecting to some sites from work because of the tight firewall there.

Almost definately an IP issue.
I have the same problem, not just with this forum but also my local forum.
basically, the user logs in, page refreshes, IP address changes, causing the website to log the user out (or more probably, the session cookie is storing the IP address)
I could be wrong, but just to rule this out tell him to go to
http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and refresh the page a few times. If he is on a rolling IP address, the IP address will change and this will confirm that this is the problem.
In the settings there should be an option to disable IP checking in session cookies. Alternatively, you could use a hack like this:

Hi Nooj - sorry to hear you've lost your voice. I'me using Vista, IE and accessing with no problems. Surely Debz can fix an itsy-bitsy problem like this for you? She can fire up a PDP-11 for chrissake!

So its not the IP address he is having issues with. ( i still do though!)
Deleting cookies is one thing, but if its a virus which is causing the problem he wont know until he does a few scans.

I'm running Vista and Firefox at home, have no probs with access
Be worth checking the security settings for Firefox, making sure that cookies are enabled. Try IE as well on the same machine, if that works then it's not likely firewall or IP, it's more likely Firefox.
Try using the "Clear Private Data" option in Firefox and bin everything, cookes, sessions, usernames & passwords, then start from scratch - unfortunately you'll then have to remember your account details for everything!
