What's an average running temp guys?

#1 Post by jayboy » Thu Aug 27, 2009 10:19 am

On mine it seems to hover around 67/68 to 72 on a cruise.

In traffic or hooning around the gear in town / 50 limits it can creep up to 80. I'm not worried, only that I wondered if it seemed a bit low, the normal figures I first mentioned.

Mine was always 76 - 78C unless stationary.

Since I changed the coolant the other week it's been 76-82 (ish) ..... but maybe it's just that I've been more concious of it and have looked at the gauge a bit more.

Is your thermostat operating properly? - it does sound a bit low to me.

:smt001
Mine runs at 66-68 normal, and will go up to 95 in traffic, which activates the fans.
I think it's been said on here before that the earlier ones run cooler.
I've had no problems, and don't get worried, at least it lets me know the fans are working.

Ah fair enough, it gets up to temp in traffic and the fans always cut in when it gets up there, so if it a thing with early ones, then fine by me.

A "cool" early one here as well. High sixties on the open road and has been into the high ninties in prolonged summer traffic jams.

before i bought mine i tested the fans. Took about 10 mins at idle for it to get to 94 degrees when the fans cut it. they cut the heat pretty sharpish too!

Mine ran at 78, all day every day, but as the miles have gone on it seems to run a bit cooler, 76 seems the norm now

normal motorway (within limit) 68-70. City up til fan cut in. Never been above the 95 even the day we had 38, where it in fact was too hot to drive anyway.

OK so we have established another difference on the newer bikes, so I wonder why they changed the thermostat temp? and I wonder if it's worth going for a later one, to up the water temp. I understood that the coolant being as close to 90 was best for an engine...
