Anyone know anything about mobile phones?

#1 Post by T.C. » Mon Aug 24, 2009 7:01 pm

I may get more help from you guys than I have from Vodafone. So please bear with me why I try and explain my problem.

I have bluetooth fitted to my car.

I have a Motorola Razzr V something or other which also has bluetooth fitted, which is about a year old.

I also have a bluetooth headset.

When used with my headset, everything is fine.

However, when I try to use it through the car, the phone connects and disconnects every 15 - 30 seconds, and if I use the key pad in the car, it will disconnect as soon as the number is dialled.

If I have the phone on standby, it interferes with the radio as it connects and disconnects, so I have got to the point where I have deleted the car from my phone.

My daughters phone (which is about 6 months older than mine) is fine through the car, my wife's phone which is about 5 years old is also fine.

So, I am of the opinion that the problem obviously lies with my phone, but has anyone got any suggestions as to how to overcome the problem other than throw it in the local canal

I am on contract, so I am probably still a few months away from my next upgrade, but I would rather use the bluetooth through the car than have a piece of plastic stuck in my ear all the time when I am driving.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I hope I explained the problem OK :smt017

Sounds to me as though your phone is not ' fit for purpose'.

It probably was when I got it, and to be fair it still performs fine in everything else, this is just annoying though.

If push comes to shove, I might just have to wait until my next upgrade :smt009

Bluetooth is a standard.
Suggest you search for your mobile and the Bluetooth system in the car

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

That is all fine and dandy. It has been suggested that some phones have issues with certain cars and I may need a software upgrade, so that is something I will look at tomorrow.

Bluetooth has a number of profiles and implementation of these profiles is not always consistent.
Manufacturers of Bluetooth equipment have to do a huge amount of compatibility testing with the various handsets that are on the market ... not all will be tested and certainly not those released after the equipment was launched. This can be a big problem in the automotive industry as vehicle life-cycles and phone handset life-cycles are of an entirely different magnitude.

Don't know whether there are known problems with the Razer and the X-type's Bluetooth module

I've had Nokia, Motorola (Razr V3x) & Sony Ericson phones, the Nokias typically seem more "compliant" with bluetooth systems, the SE seems to work with most things (with slightly limited functionality, like voice dialling doesn't seem to work as well through bluetooth or phone book access) while I've had plenty of problems with the V3x just connecting to a bluetooth headset, let alone doing anything with it. Firmware update on the phone may make a difference (assuming there is an update available), but personally I'd be looking for something better at my next upgrade

Alternatively, swap phones with the missus or daughter until the next upgrade (assuming that's an option?)

Thanks for your thoughts guys, it has certainly given me something to chew on.

Using my wife's phone is certainly an option, but the thought of having to transfer all my data from my phone to the wife's is not something I will look forward to, but if needs must.

I am going to see if there is a software upgrade available later on today, and then take it from there.

Thanks again guys.

Hi TC. It sure looke like a Bluetooth compatibilty issue, one that will not get solved easily (as Motorola will say it's Jaguars? fault and vice versa). You could try looking on the Digital Spy forum (www.digitalspy.co.uk) to see if anyone on there comes up with any pearls of wisdom.
Good luck

PETER
