Alpinestars boots repair?

#1 Post by paganman » Sun Aug 23, 2009 1:28 pm

Hi,
Does anyone know where I can get a pair of zips replaced on my SMX 4 waterproof boots? They've done around 60k and have never leaked, and still have bags of life left in them, but the teeth on one of the zips has worn out?
Being from Yorkshire, and not keen to spend Falco modification money on another pair of winter boots, I really don't want to throw these out because of a zip. (I have been using a bungee wrapped round them when it rains, but recently collegues accused me of being wurzel gummidge!)
Thanks
1st Italian bike. 1st V-twin, loving it!

...no idea where to get them fixed, but have to say I have the same boots, my 2nd pair of Alpinestars, and I find the zips on them flimsy. Previous pair(SMX-R) lasted me about 2 years before the soles started flapping, and the zip came away inside the first 6 months. Likewise my SMX 4 - 9 months this time. Haven't gone to the length of using a bungee - just pull the velcro right over. Like having the white star on my ankle and am admittedly hooked on the 'coolfactor' of the brand, but crap zips on £150+ boots is a bit, well, crap. :smt012

No idea where, but pmsl @ "Wurzel".
Wouldn't colour coded Duct tape look better? :smt083

Hi Paganman
I've just been down to FeetFirst and spoken to the guy there.
Unfortunately he can't get hold of the zips now so would be unable to repair your boots.
Says he's tried different zip manufacturers but no-one does what he wants.

Sorry, looks like a new pair is needed.

Have you tried contacting Alpinestars (or their UK distributor) - they may be able to suggest something
