Acumen DGV Fitting

#1 Post by aspguitars » Fri Aug 21, 2009 2:01 pm

Hi! all,
I have a 2005 Falco and have just bought an Acumen DGV Digital Gear Indicator/Volt Meter.
I have fitted quite a few in my time, but never to an Aprilia. I presume that the wiring will be as in the Haynes Manual for the Mille that I have, but I'm not too sure.
If anyone has fitted either the DG8 or DGV I would be very grateful for any advice.
Acumen have said that they can't guarantee the cable colours in their advisory wiring chart, so I'm hoping that someone has already fitted one and that they can confirm the cable colours with pin numbers in the sockets.
Thanks
Ade

Never fitted one of these things but the wiring diagram is in the Falco User Manual and the Falco Workshop Manual and on a separate pdf file .... all of which are freely available to download from Martin Poll's website:

Hi! and thanks for the info. I downloaded the wiring diagram from Martin Polls site. Just as well, as the one in the Haynes Mille Manual is rubbish. I have fitted loads of DG8's , but never the Acumen DGV. The only main difference is the extra purple cable for the battery reading connection. I managed to find a negative and a permanent live in the plug with the aid of my trusty meter and test lamp. I fitted it in about an hour. Only had to take the screen off and had full access. If only they had a plug and go harness. Unfortunatley Acumen say that although Aprilias are lovely to ride, their wiring diagrams and wiring change from year to year. So they can't even guarantee that the wiring guide that they have on their site is correct.
I think I was lucky. I have a neat pair of wire strippers that don't cut the cable, but just part the insulation. All you have to do is just solder the relative cable in place. I slid a large piece of heat shrink over the whole cable and once I had soldered all the cables, I wrapped everthing with self amalgamating tape. The heat shrink just finished it off and looked really neat.
If anyone else wants to fit one I'll be more than happy to help.
I gave it a good test ride today and found it invaluable.
Cheers
Ade

Sounds good !

Out of curiosity, how does the Accumen voltmeter compare to the voltage readings on the Falco's instrument pack?
(I'm guessing they will be measuring at different places in the wiring harness).

Acumen DGV

Hi! again,
Acumen recommend that you connect the purple cable to any permanent live, but preferably not direct from the battery. I connected mine to a permanent live in the instrument display plug. If I remember correctly it came from the relay that supplies the power to the cooling fan. Because of this, the voltage reading is the same. I tend not to use the display for voltage reading, that's why I fitted the Acumen. I was just going to fit a DG8, but got the DGV for £50 from a guy on ebay who bought it and never fitted it. A good buy I feel.
Cheers
