Hmm.. Life and modern design

#1 Post by Kwackerz » Thu Aug 13, 2009 10:56 pm

The Father in Law (Not Sam) had (another) heartattack earlier.
He's ok, in Hossie, and now off the critical list so thats not too bad.. if you know what i mean..

Think he will have to have a pacemaker this time as one of the 3(?) valves went tits up last time, this time it's the larger valve that played up..

See, if God'd gone for a decent 16 valve twin overhead cam to start with he'd be fine..

I dunno.. maybe God does ride a Harley? It'd explain his design choice?

That will be the Bicuspid valve, the one between left atrium(from the lungs) to left ventricle , up the semi lunar valve to the aorta(main artery out). Pacemakers are often used when the stimulus from the vagas nerve (10th cranial) to the sino atrial node on the heart, get blocked /intermittant and thus cause a heart missfire (fibrilation)
Heart surgery is now considered to be profoundly succesful these days, so he will prolly be fit as a butchers dog in no time.
Looking at the heart through an engineers eyes, I think big G generally made a good job in the design dept, when you get into anatomy and physiology, its a miracle that things dont go wrong more often.
Good luck

There are many things that can be done to help with cardiac problems.
A pacemaker may be one choice but other options may be more appropriate - is really up to the cardiac team as they will know best

for the record it is easier to consider the heart as two pumps not one.... One takes deoxygenated blood to the lungs the other takes oxygenated blood to the body

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

What's Sab got to do with this? Is he Tim's illegitimate eastern european half-brother .... with all these revelations I'm wondering whether they've revived "Soap" for another series

Oh, and best wishes to your Father in Law, Tim.

My mum had her heart valves replaced (they were attacked by a virus) and a pacemaker fitted a while back - must be some time ago as she had her pacemaker replaced a year or more ago.
Anyway, basically just another saying they seem to know what they are doing in sorting these things out.
