will mille shock fit falco?????

Hi all have been looking for an upgrade rear shock for my speedy red falco, seen a few on the old fleabay, but theres alot of miile ohlins rear shocks floating about, so, will they fit my my falco? or do i need the bottom mounts? this has prob been asked before, but i only have bike about a month, so not to familiar with the aprilias. cheers all!

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

i think most of us older falco pilots, and especially the silver zimmer wielding d-rider, have access to most answers....


Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Mille Ohlins (up to 03) or Tuono Ohlins (up to 05) with the linkages from the same bike will do you just fine.

and what zimmer frame advice do you have andy?

make sure the grips are colour matched or??

..... zimmer frame :smt120 ..... there's only one of us that's so decrepit that his back will not stand up to the rigours of riding a Falco and has moved his handlebars for a sit-up-and-beg riding style ... that's when his sense of balance doesn't desert him ... as it has been known to do when up in his loft .... quickly followed by not up in his loft ......

But young mr grace, you have to ask what I was doing on the loft ladder in the first place.... And I am sorry that my knuckles do not scrape the floor so being hunched over like a lovestruck Quasimodo is not natural for me ....

Just fitted an Ohlins '03 RSVR shock on standard Falco linkages, I bought it a couple of weeks back and I've had Reactive Suspension in York give it an overhaul, re-valve and fit a suitable spring for my chunky carcass. He uses Proflex springs as reckons they're best, Only trouble is, it's blue/purple so all that Ohlins bling is hidden away and looks nearly standard from a distance! Can't wait to try it out. This Falco ownership is costing me a bloody fortune in trick parts though!

Hi Paganman, I'm glad somebody else has given the RSVR shock/Falco linkage combo a try out. Did Reactive say what rate spring they fitted, by any chance? I'm very happy with the way my (very similar) setup is working. The only thing I intend to do over the winter is to get the shock revalved to soften off the compression damping a bit. But then I've had to do that with every Ohlins shock I've ever owned... But that's just tweaking to get it perfect. It's 95% there as it is.

Hi Mangocrazy, not sure what the rate is but it's a 900lb spring to cope with my "slender" 18 stone solo at minimum, and 2 up with luggage approx 28 stone at max. I got the make wrong in my original rambling it's a Hypercoil spring. Didn't get chance to try it out today as it's chucked it down all day, so took my VFR to work. I'll let you know what it's like once I've had a good blat out. It was your link a while back that inspired me to go down this route, so thanks for the original advice, I'll keep you posted.

Hi Paganman, that's good to hear. I'm using an 800lb spring for my 11 stone(ish) weight and my wife's 8 stone weight, so that sounds about right to me. Had it not been for the RSV dogbone rubbing on my hugger mudguard, I'd have probably continued with the more regular RSV shock/triangles/dogbone. But I'm very happy with the 'hybrid' arrangement and don't intend to switch back.

One thing I have noticed is that the ride height adjuster makes a bigger difference with the Falco triangles/dogbone than with the RSV triangles/dogbone. The maximum ride height available at the rear wheel is appreciably more than with the RSV setup; so much so that I had to wind 4 or 5 turns off the adjuster. I'm now roughly in the middle of the ride height adjustment range with the Falco triangles/dogbone, whereas I was pretty much maxed-out on the RSV triangles/dogbone. All down to different linkage ratios, I guess.

I have just bought a Sachs rear shock from an 2001 Mille (yellow spring / gold body & cannister). Do I need to change to matching triangle and dog bone or will the standard Falco ones do the job. There is a set of 02 on ebay but it will mean another £47 with postage. An expense I could do without but if needs must.
