Changing laws

#1 Post by BikerGran » Mon Jul 06, 2009 6:59 pm

This email was forwarded to me and purports to be true - the worrying thing is, I can believe it IS true!

To all my engineering and technical minded friends: This would be funny if it weren't so alarming. (And even so, it's still a little bit funny.)

This was sent to me by a senior exec at Chrysler who I have known for years

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Monday morning I attended a breakfast meeting where the speaker and guest was David E. Cole, Chairman Center for Automotive Research (CAR and Professor at the University of Michigan . You have likely heard CAR quoted, or referred to in the auto industry news lately.

Mr. Cole, who is an engineer by training, told many stories of the difficulty of working with the folks that the Obama administration has sent to save the auto industry. There have been many meetings where people with 30+ years experience automotive manufacturing have had to listen to a newcomer to the industry.

Mr. Cole's favorite story is as follows:

There was a team of Obama people speaking to Mr. Cole (Engineer, automotive experience 40+ years, and Chairman of CAR). They were explaining to Mr.. Cole that the auto companies needed to make a car that was electric and/or ran on liquid natural gas (LNG) with enough combined fuel to go 500 miles that the US wouldn't 'need' so many gas stations. (A whole other topic). They were quoting BTU's of LNG and battery life that they had looked up on an internet website.

Mr. Cole explained that to do this you would need a trunk FULL of batteries and a LNG tank as big as a car. Further, there were problems related to the laws of physics that prevented them from...

The Obama person interrupted and said (and I am quoting here)

"These laws of physics? Who's rules are those, we need to change that. (Some of the others wrote down the name of the laws so they could look it up later.) We have the Congress and the Administration. We can repeal that law, amend it, or use an executive order to get rid of that problem. That's why we are here, to fix these sort of issues."

Total garbage. Don't believe a word of it. It's politics, therefore bullshit by definition.

Hi all,

I find this so funny :smt046 Politicians assume that they know better than the rest of us mere mortals! They have no clue about anything, and feel they can quote/change/amend/fool the general population. Alas, most of us have a general thing called intelligence :smt016 which must be handed in when they get their mp's ID Card :smt005

It's bull - I've read the same story before, probably related to the Bush or Clinton administration. It's an old joke, recycled for the Obama administration

Although, where politicians are concerned, I wouldn't be surprised if they read that and thought, hey, that's a good idea! :smt002

It's not 100% bull though - the name was right even if the date and the exact words were incorrect!
