I use Skype. Living in Spain I used to cop for big mobile and landline bills but with this it is so cheap.
It's worth having it on your pc and buying a £10 USB phone,or even a £1 headset will do. I can send texts and they show to the receiver that they have come from my mobile and they can reply to that.
Its not free but it is bloody cheap.

Me and the misses spend a few hours per week on the phone and text loads off it, and I only use about 10 Euros every 2 or 3 weeks.

Its great and well worth a try especially if you call abroad at all.

Call quality is normally equal to my landline(which I hardly use now), occasionally it is poor but hang up and try again and its normally good.

Cant recommend it enough if like me you get big phone bills.
Also texting is so easy, not having to fiddle about wiith mobile keypads:)

If you use a laptop you can easily find an unsecured wireless network and even use it whilst on the move. I downloaded a point of interest wireless hotspot and added it in my tom tom so I can always find somewhere to make my calls.
If your mates install it you can talk for free as long as you wish regardless of where in the world they are.

you get taken to an advertising screen afterwards.

They get a small sum (.001?? of a pence) for the referral, followed by further coin for a successful acceptance of the advert.

So yes, it is free. A bit like Visordown used to do (click thru advertising)
