Falco for scrap

#1 Post by beckh » Wed Jun 17, 2009 6:10 pm

It now transpires I can get my Falco back for around £300 for scrap. Dont mind doing in if I can get my money back, and looking at ebay the prices are silly for bits no-one will ever want BUT some of it is good.
So, scrap is : both wheels, swing arm, rear subframe, rear light, seat cowl, entire left hand fairing, fork legs. The rest should be OK but I need to know if people need anything and what sort of offers you would put in. I am a reasonable bloke, not after much, but I must make the cash back or it isnt worth the bother. And I have 3 broken verterbae so I'm in a body brace - time to teach the wife which end of a spanner to hold ?! :smt002 Incidentally, engine is 18k miles, good runner with new aprilia clutch cyl. Let me know asap, I have until Friday.

My view is you should make the money back.
The motor is worth a few hundred quid, then there's the ancillaries such as the rads / oil cooler, coolant bottle, hoses, airbox, throttle bodies, ECU, Instrument pack.
How's the frame?
I'm guessing the fairing subframe has had it - if not, that's a valuable item.
Seats / seat cowl
Any salvageable plastics including the tank with fuel pump.

There are probably bits I've missed but it's got to be worth more than £300.
Might even be worth seeing whether you can flog the lot as one package for 4 or 5 hundred - instant profit but without the mechanic's training course for the mrs.

If you do have it and break it, I'm not sure what I'd want from it myself at present - I've got most of the bits I need for what I'm doing to mine but there may be a few small bits and pieces (though you've got the best bits for me on ebay already). That said, I'm sure there will be bits that others on here want and ebay will do the rest (remembering to list with the other compatible Aprilias to maximise your audience)

BTW I've had a look on ebay and the vertebrae they are selling don't seem to be that expensive ... though I doubt most are much use to you as they mainly seem to be carefully pre-owned by dinosaurs.
Hope you heal up well and the pain is bearable.

Pain is nothing with Tramadol ! Thats the ads out of the way, I could take the bike, got time on my side I suppose. No biking this summer for me and there are a lot of good bits left. Front and rear subframes are fecked though. Frame itself is OK.

I'm sure its worth you putting up the £300.00 and if you don't want to break it yourself then someone here abouts will probably take it off your hands....

Yep, I'm with the others. You'll get your money back easily, with a fair margin. Plus, you'll help other Falcos live longer.

I, personally, have finished my bike pretty much. I could use the rear light surround if it's intact. And the pillion left footpeg/exhaust hanger.

How did the rear shock fare in the crash? Is it standard - I'm after an upgrade.

Sidestand and rear light reflector wrecked, mille shock should be OK, pillion footrest hanger stands a 50/50 chance only I think. I will try and get it back and let you all know when its ready.

If in good shape I am interested in the lock set. Ignition, tank filler cap and pillion seat lock.

Bought it, should arrive next week. Locks should be OK allowing for wear but only one key at the moment (the other is with the insurance co, may come back with the bike.) I think it prudent to let you all know I am a bit restricted with movement at the moment and would struggle to strip the bike but I will post when it arrives and we will go from there. It will go on ebay but you guys get first pickings. Let the vulture cage open :smt003

Sounds like good news - and take your time in taking it to bits - you don't want to affect your recovery by doing things too early.

I still think it may be worth sticking it on Ebay as is - "spares or project opportunity" (with a suitable starting price that gives you a profit) - just to see whether you can make on the deal without the hassle of taking it apart. If it doesn't sell, well there will be some fees, but at least you'll still be able to strip it and flog it bit by bit ... with us first :smt002

i would suggest ebay as well - 700 as a buy it now, 500 as a start

after stripping my falco for spares, my total is £750 back so far, bearing only £65 out of the £750 was for the dead engine. Still got wheels, fuel tank, clocks, ecu, most of the bodywork, and front forks so I'll be over £1000 when the rest of it is sold. So its worth breaking for spares for sure
