Today's work on the Falco

#1 Post by D-Rider » Sat Jun 13, 2009 10:33 pm

Just a sneaky pic or two to show what I've been doing today.
I'll tell the story tomorrow - I'm knackered and still have to watch MotoGP qualifying before I get some sleep.

This is what Dominic considers to be his manky spare yoke .... it's better than the one I took off!

Nice! I can't help drooling over your wheels and forks. Have you got rear dumper to match as well? :smt007

I've never seen a stand like that. Similiar to ABBA I've got. How does it work? Is there a lever somewhere like on mine?

Lovely! Will be interesting to hear how the ride compares now - have you got out on it yet?

The lever's in the picture - it's the bar at the front, that's stopping the stand from rotating further, you push that down with your foot. The one at the back is a safety bar, to stop the bike rocking back off of the stand.

Ultipro stands are no longer available due to NWS no longer trading, as I found out when I tried to buy one a couple of months ago. If you ring their sales line you get put straight through to Pyramid Plastics.

Doh ! too busy today .... you'll have to wait a bit longer for the report. (Sorry)

Yes I have been out on the bike today but it was only a short trip on city roads to church and back.

At least it showed up there are no problems with the installation and I had a feeling it's keeping things more in contact over bumps .... but it will take some more spirited riding down bumpy back roads to show up any real improvement.

I also need to take the bike across to Revs Racing as they said that once I'd fitted the forks, they wanted to make sure it was set up well for me.
Hopefully I'll do that during the week.

Sab - yes, I've had the rear Ohlins for 2 or 3 years now .... the front end is catching up at last.
Firestarter has correctly identified the stand - I hadn't heard that they'd gone out of business (does that mean mine is now even more rare and valuable?)
It is very similar to the Abba stand - I think it's even more robust - and I like the way it's foot operated.
It's disadvantage compared to the Abba is that it doesn't have the option of adapters to lift from the engine mounting points - which is the Abba's strong point for doing the swinger swap (though, of course, there are ways round this)

Looks good! How many rings have you got showing above the yokes?

very nice

when are you going to finish putting the left hand side clips on for your zimmer frame?

no point in keeping quiet on it - most people do realise that is why you have the single exhaust.....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

It's on the 4th ring - I believe that's standard for the RSVR with these forks.

The rear ride height is maxed out - like it was before.

What's yours set to?

I first went for 5, but that seemed to work the dampener too hard which was consequently set very firm making low-speed maneouvers a bit cumbersome. I am now on 4 and removed the damper as I dont need it anymore.... I did lose some agility but Im ok with it like this.

However... Im not on max ride height on the rear ohlins. I am (or was - I'm now in India) working on tuning and testing my suspension for best results so I might change the above.
