Zumo Mounting

#1 Post by wavey » Wed Jun 03, 2009 3:14 pm

Has anyone here fitted a Garmin Zumo to their falco WITHOUT a double bubble screen? Ideally (if I buy one) I would like it fitted centrally whilst still getting a good view of the clocks.

Don't like DB screens, I had one on my ZX6R A1P but it just battered my head if I went over 60/70mph.

Cheers
Dave

yes

you can manufacture a mount that will go into the headstock has the gap for the securing pin for the tank bag is

I did that before i fitted the screen under the double bubble

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Not a zumo, but I've fitted my nuvi 250w recently.
Fits nicely under the screen above the rev counter on a bracket made out of 2 "L" brackets from B&Q bolted to the front sub frame. Tested last weekend, really like it.
Will take a pic once I get home.

Just the answer I was hoping for, thanks. I had thought of using the tank mount gizmo as I don't use the tank bag much anymore, but I wanted to know that I could still see the clocks ok.
Actually, saying that, I would'nt need to see the speedo 'cos the Zumo has one, and I would'nt need to see the Zumo 'cos I've bluetoothed my lid and it would talk to me (and stop me feeling lonely).

The Nuvi is smaller I think, so should fit easier. But it's not bluetooth (or is it).

Hi, I have a Zumo. I made up a small bracket (alu flat bar) that bolted under the headstock to one of the key barrel bolts. You can see the clocks over the Zumo.
The new Zumo 660 is out now so you may get a few cheap 550's as people upgrade.

Yup, it's smaller and has no bluetooth.

Bracket looks like this

The nav fits nicely under the screen.

Thanks for the pics guys, both very neat.

dyzio - do you get much vibration from mounting there? Do you think the larger & heavier zumo would work there?

flyingkiwi - I assume you have good access to the ignition switch.

Not really, very little (if any), the nav is touching the screen when fitted, so I guess that helps. I'll find out when I'll be off to EU land with a DB screen.
Dunno about the zumo, I wouldn't be worried about the weight, but it will most likely obscure the rev counter.
Having said that, I'd try to hold the zumo in the same place I have mine, you'll see how much of the rev counter you can see.

Aye, I can take the screen off, you'll see how it's made. But won't get a chance till tomorrow.

Not a Zumo I'm afraid, because it was outwith my budget but I fitted a RAM mount on an L bracket fixed with sticky pads onto the "dash" under the screen for my Nuvi250. I used a RAM because I was concerned that the standard Garmin mount may not prevent the unit bouncing out on bumpy roads. It's pretty rigid and extremely easy to see in that position. I did consider using a headstock mount but found that to be too low to glance at without bending my neck. The dash position is in my line of sight.

I used a Telferizer mount http://www.telferizer.com/prods.html#aprilia which fits in the centre of the headstock with my Zumo 400. It fits well and with the short arm does not block the instruments.

Ok, the mounting is made from two "L" brackets and a "T" bracket from B&Q.

One of the brackets was flattened and fits on top of the subframe. I've drilled 2 holes in it and bolted the "T" bracket to it. The second L bracket is attatched to the T one and holds the garmin mounting (M4-or3 bolt + some rubber grommets)

Doesn't look very nice, but hey, it's covered by plastic and does its job perfectly.

Moggyvan - what's the address ?

If it's yours may I respectfully suggest you remove it asap. You don't want the whole world knowing the location of your pride and joy I should imagine.
