MPL slave issue ?

#1 Post by sthomson1 » Sat May 23, 2009 4:35 pm

Has anyone fitted one of these MPL slaves ?
Ive fitted it...bled it and bled it...its definately alot lighter....but....the gearchange is terrible. Its as if the rod isnt getting pushed enough to seperate the clutch.
Anyone else had this problem ?

Hi all,

You need to adjust your lever position, think about the mpl is a bigger cylinder and therefore needs to travel a little bit further to work properly fella ;)

also adjust the ickle screw on the travel in the lever as well....

Then all will easier and smoother :smt003
My warranty is the clear/smoked tail lights around the corner!!

Ive adjusted the lever out to the maximum, so, when i pull the lever in, it doesnt even touch the grip...the bike still bangs into gear !!!
Ive installed the original slave and its back to normal, smooth gear change.

Im going to buy new DOT 4 fluid tomorrow and try bleeding the MPL again (using syringes)

most of the times there still is air left in the system. Eventhough you think there isn't.

Go to the AF1 forum and read the post by KZMille on how to bleed the clutch. There is a good chance you will see bubles coming from the system.

Since the MPL clutch reduces the effort by using a bigger diameter slave, simple math sil tell you that the stroke is reduced by using the MPL system. Reduced stroke+air in system=clutch drag.

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Cheers guys.
Ive ordered a bleed banjo bolt for the master cylinder, im thinking the airs trapped there.

Ill change the fluid and re bleed both from the MC and slave, hopefully this sorts it .... if not, the MPL will be up for sale.

cheers

with respect do not rush into selling stuff

the mpl is normally extremely good - I have never heard of any problems with one

with that in mind, do not be afraid to contact MPL directly - they are only too happy to help

My mpl is good - I'm glad I made the change .... but it wasn't easy to bleed. I used kzmille's guide which at least made it possible.
I then had to set the span adjusters further out - the trade for lighter effort is longer travel ... that's the deal on levers!.

Now .... the thing to note is that over time the whole thing has improved. my guess is that some small, remaining, hard to remove bubbles have worked their way through the system up into the reservoir as I've ridden along. I may be wrong but that's my current explanation.

I have also bought myself a bleed valve to fit by the master cylinder to make the whole process a bit easier the next time I do it!

TwinNut wrote:Is there any great difference in lever effort required between the MPL and Evoluzione? Anyone ever done a comparison? I had an MPL last time round and it made a good bit of difference and I never had any drag problems. This Falco came fitted with the Evolzione slave and it also doesn't suffer any clutch drag but the lever action seems a little more than I remember from the MPL, could just imagining things. If the MPL does require less effort and you want get rid of the MPL I'll swap you my silver Evolzione (assuming your MPL's not Gold that it is :smt078)
I think both EVO and MPL both reduce effort at the cost of travel. From what I hear the should be comparable.
