Gilles rear sets and a siezed rear caliper

#1 Post by Nooj » Fri Mar 27, 2009 7:41 pm

Took the Falco out for a trial run after it passed it's MoT today to do some fine tuning to the set up and make sure nothing fell off after a winter of fettling. I got about ten miles down the road and the rear caliper siezed up completely and locked the back wheel, luckilly I was doing about 20mph through a village at the time.

The only thing that I can think of is that somehow the Gilles rear sets have upset the master cylinder as there seems to be no way to control the brake lever's return, it just kind of hangs off the peg and flops around when not being stood on to slow down.

Anyone got any ideas??

Reckon I've got to the bottom of it. There's bits missing, a return spring and a lever stop, so the brake was constantly on ever so slightly.

I'm assuming they are missing, I don't know as I don't have them, could be Gilles didn't include them in the design.

That's just too clever :smt004

Another crappy thing: If you do the bolts that hold the pegs on up tight enough to stop the pegs revolving, the levers don't move. Slacken the bolts off so the levers move and the pegs spin round.

(edit) Had a look at the parts list, on it there is no lever return spring and no stop for the lever to rest on when up, so I'm assuming they were never included. Also I don't have part 18, 'holder for stop light'.

It's my considered opinion that Gilles rear sets for the Falco are shit.
