Anyone using a Nitron Sport?

#1 Post by Barney93 » Tue Mar 24, 2009 8:44 pm

Hi

Well the blue Sachs' time is well and truly up!

On a tight budget and looking for a new shock.

Been prowling the ebay for a white mille shock but there's not much about.

Anyway...I fancy something new!

Been looking at the Nitron Sport and was wondering if anyone else had gone down this route??

It's about the £350 mark which is right about the limit of what I want to spend.

Any views appreciated :smt001

mille white or yellow shock, linkages and refurb/service would be about the same - and better imho

also try searching for some of the rarer things - ie some wp shocks will fit straight in....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

A refurbished Mille shock of either type would certainly be a good choice, and probably the cheap[est option. The ride height adjustment is also very handy. I have been using a White Spring shock, (as it came), that I got off eBay, nearly new and I have been very happy with it.
You might also find a nearly new Ohlins for that price.
My mate has a Nitron on his CBR600 and rates it very highly.
Sorry if I'm sitting on the fence, but all of these would be fine and a big improvement on a worn out Blue Spring shock.

Just remembered Ben Wilkins (ex Ride Magazine) has had his Falco for more than eight years now and has used a Technoflex rear shock for much of that time and rates it very highly.
He road tests bikes for a living and has experienced a lot more different suspension set ups than any of us on here, so I would value his opinion.

You should get a decent used MilleR Ohlins shock for that sort of money - probably with enough to get it serviced too.

Use of the forum SEARCH function (Hint) suggests Firestarter has a Nitron fitted:

Yup, I've got one - very impressed, although I'm no suspension connoisseur. Big improvement over stock (at least, I think so) - how much is the shock, and how much is just having the right spring/bit of extra ride height, I don't know. Seems to be a quality item, that whatever the reason improved my enjoyment of the bike ten-fold.

D-R's given the link to the post I put up when I fitted it, would also suggest a look on apriliaforum.com, I'm sure someone over there has put one on recently (they've got a search function as well :smt002 ).

Mines wound right down (didn't want to change too many things at once), planning on putting a bit more ride height on at some point this year to try and sharpen up the steering a bit more

I have a Technoflex fitted to my Fjr in 2002 and it's still as good as new but I do have it serviced every other year by a chap in Halesowen. They can also be made to suit your weight but the down side is they will be very pricey now since the euro is doing well.

You could try these people www.dpsracing.co.uk/shock_servicing.php as I few of my m8s have used them and had good reports.
If you have to rev it, Dont buy it.

Many thanks for the help guys! The only thing I don't like about the look of the falco is that I always think it has a bit of a droopy bottom...maybe I should ease off the pies :smt002
