Goodbye to my England

#1 Post by Gio » Thu Mar 12, 2009 7:30 am

I received this from a friend in Australia, who went to live there about 30 years ago now, but he's not an Australian citizen, he still has his English Passeport (sic).

From The Queen's Royal Lancers Website:

Goodbye to my England , So long my old friend
Your days are numbered, being brought to an end
To be Scottish, Irish or Welsh that's fine
But don't say you're English, that's way out of line.

The French and the Germans may call themselves such
So may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch
You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane
But don't say you're English ever again.

At Broadcasting House the word is taboo
In Brussels it's scrapped, in Parliament too
Even schools are affected, staff do as they're told
They must not teach children about England of old.

Writers like Shakespeare, Milton and Shaw
The pupils don't learn about them anymore
How about Agincourt, Hastings , Arnhem or Mons ?
When England lost hosts of her very brave sons.

We are not Europeans, how can we be?
Europe is miles away over the sea
We're the English from England , let's all be proud
Stand up and be counted - Shout it out loud !

Let's tell our Government and Brussels too
We're proud of our heritage and the Red, White and Blue
Fly the flag of Saint George or the Union Jack
Let the world know - WE WANT OUR ENGLAND BACK !!!!

Hear hear!

Even Microsoft got in on the act by having US English and International English options. At least we used to have British English....

Very nicely written - unfortunately complete bollox.

Those things that it's supposed we don't teach in schools, well we do.
My kids learned far more about them at school than I ever did.

It's true that flying the English flag can be difficult - that's more to do with it being usurped by racist groups rather than left for ordinary English men and Women of all backgrounds and ancestry ..... like it used to be.

England has seen the coming and going of all the great empires of history from Egyptian, Roman, Spanish and dozens more right up to the USSR and we'll still be here when in the blink of an eye historically speaking when these European upstarts are long forgotten. :smt083

If the Scots and Welsh want to tag along they're quite welcome. :smt002

bollocks, I am English

I speak English, and I was born in England

My parents are English

When given the choice of emigrating to NZ a few years ago I decided no as I wanted any child of mine to be born in England

so - not even British, let alone poxy european!

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Most of these civilisations have come to this island too - either to join in the fun or to take what they could (a bit like when the Brits have gone elsewhere).

The Romans - yep we all know about them - came with the foresight to build tourist attractions for the 20th and 21st centuries :-)

The Egyptians - yep they came too - buying up luxury goods stores and Football clubs

The Russians - another raid on the footballing heritage

The Spanish - nope can't think of anything - didn't we send them packing when they came up this way on a boat trip ?

These is my thoughts EXACTLY.

I am English and I am proud of it (even prouder to be a scouser but we will not go into that)

The only time I will be British is when a Jock, a welshy (i was gonna say sheepshagger but thought better of it) and a paddy stand next to me and say they are British too (No, I am not having a go at any of them.....well maybe the sheepshaggers :smt003 )

Trouble is, we don't own much of this country any more. What little industry we have left is mostly oened by foreigners, as are the services like power and gas. Our laws come from the foreigners in Brussels (well we have some of our own but only if they approve of them) and even our financial institutions are largely owned by foreigners. And people who live here and benefit from living here can threaten our soldiers and our country and are protected by our police. What a sorry state of affairs.

I'd like my England back but I don't think it's gonna happen in my lifetime. I've always said I was proud to be British but there doesn't seem to be much to be proud of any more. If I had the health and the cash and the skills to go to Canada or NZ I'd go. I hate the thought of my grandchildren growing up far away from me but I think it would be a good thing for them.

Never, EVER thought I'd find myself saying these things but I've got to the stage where I don't want to watch the news or read the papers cos it all makes me so mad and feel so powerless.
The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.
