Tank Range
Right, seeing as I am taking the Falco on her first long trip to Le Mans in April,
what sort of range can I expect on a tankfull of liquid gold? Unfortunately, due to various commitments and the weather,
I have only done about 40 miles on her so far and still has the same petrol in when I bought her!...............Shamefull
I won't exactly be pussy footing it (out of towns and when conditions allow of course) and will include some 110-120mph crusing.
Cheers

I get 100-110 before the light on my normal commute - 25 miles of A-road bashing, and a brief bit of motorway. Like Chabby, I was getting around 150miles on longer motorway blasts before the light
Depends on what your trip is going to be like, if it's motorway stuff I was starting to get uncomfortable at around 120 miles so was looking to stop sooner rather than to fill up. If it's trunk roads, I'll happily ride a lot longer before needing to get off

Have bettered 140, more typically 120 to the warning light.
Worst was when the warning light came on at 80 and I spluttered to a halt at 100.
Individual bikes seem reasonably consistent if ridden in a consistent manner.
There seems to be quite a lot of variability between bikes and if you ride differently.
It seems they are more efficient when revved rather than pootling along in the low rev ranges.

worst before the fuel light came on... 85 miles of serious hooning :)
currently, with a pc3 and renegade map for a tuono - about 140 before the fuel light comes on
I do notice that grinning while hooning through the back roads has a massive effect on the range!

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
My bike is derestricted but otherwise standard, so I have been disappointed by the 140 mile tank range (40mpg), especially as this is with relatively sedate riding on the greasy, salty roads we've had since I bought her in December. My Triumph Sprint RS provides similar performance but constantly returns 50+mpg, and 200+miles per tank. I'm interested to hear that the Power Commander provides such an improvement. Is that on a standard bike with no other mods before or since?

The tank holds 19 litres I believe so even at 40mpg you'd get nearly 170 miles on a tank but I'll bet that you'll do more like 45 - 50 mpg on a long trip on French roads so you ought to be good for 190 - 200 miles.Dusty wrote:My bike is derestricted but otherwise standard, so I have been disappointed by the 140 mile tank range (40mpg), especially as this is with relatively sedate riding on the greasy, salty roads we've had since I bought her in December. That's what I found when I went down to Nice.
Best thing is to fill up as soon as the red light goes on and you will then know how much is held in reserve at that point and can evaluate the risks of pushing it to the extremes of your range.

Thanks, Dave for clarifying your mods. That Power Commander may be worth investigating!
You're right, Fausto; 19 litres capacity but 14.5+/-1 useable capacity. Who runs it dry? I may underfill slightly which wuld obviously reduce the range, but my 40mpg is calculated by recording the fuel I put in, zeroing the trip at fill-up and noting the miles covered when the red light comes on, so that should be pretty accurate.
