WANTED: Falco, for swap with CB1300
Hi all,
I'm looking at chopping in my 2004 Honda CB1300, and getting a Falco of similar age/value. Obviously going via a dealer means I will be paying for the privilege. If anyone is interested in a swap, with money in either direction if appropriate, then please get in touch.
The CB is red/white naked, 23k miles in decent condition, worth in the region of £3200 - 3400.
Cheers, Sam

Its the naked version, I'm not a huge fan of the square light on the faired one. Was tempted to get myself a headlight fairing for the round light, there are some nice ones available in Japan. It is a great bike, silky smooth, torque galore, best handling in class, etc, etc. Currently rated as #1 most reliable bike on MCN site! Its just time for me to get a v-twin as I haven't owned one yet.sabestian wrote:Ohhh... If only you were here a few months ago I would be seriously tempted... I love CB1300... Red and white... Is it the one with a fairing...? Ohhh...![]()
Could you post some pictures? It may help with the sale/swap.
I'll get some pics up soon, need to get it polished up first. In the mean time, this is an old one with it looking rather dirty on tour on Saddleworth Moor.

Rather have that MT01, they are fun.

OK, I had a Falco before, but I had a CB1300 when my wife bought my second Falco for my birthday, 2 years ago. The CB1300 was hardly ever ridden again and eventually I sold it. That is not to say there is anything wrong with the CB; it is a great bike but, like many Japanese motorcycles, just a bit too efficient, a bit too well mannered and a bit too, well, bland. I can see why a Falco might be an attractive change. My only criticism of the CB1300 was the 5 speed gearbox which is slicker than the usual Honda unit but just needs that extra cog. It got a bit tingly too on the longer journeys. If anyone fancies the swap, enjoy it.
I'm near Stockport. Pics will follow soon.shootmyscoot wrote:hi sampse where are you located?
may be iterested, ill have to post about to see if a cb will get me a smaller bike(supermoto) any quicker than my falco
have you got a recent pic?

Interesting perspectives on the bike. MT-01 is a lovely machine, also has great build quality, but a very different prospect indeed. Is heavier and feels it, and obviously riding a 1700 twin is very different to a four (I considered one for some time). I think the appeal of the CB is in it being such a friendly machine - fast and powerful, but easy to use. If you like that style of bike, it is (arguably) the best of them - better handling than a GSXR1400 and XJR1300, and better built too. Despite being big, it is a great all rounder, I've commuted on it for 4 years (in the city and B-roads), used it for touring, done weekend fun rides, etc, etc. and it takes them all in its stride.
Interesting comments "bit too efficient... bit too well mannered...". Bit too reliable too? Bit too well made? Well I guess if you don't like that stuff it would be a bad choice

The comments regarding "Bit too reliable too? Bit too well made? Well I guess if you don't like that stuff it would be a bad choice"
These are comments that could also be applicable to the Falco, it just has more character than a Honda.
My last three bikes before the Falco were all Hondas, a VFR750, CB750F2(N) Retro and a CBR1000F, which I have owned more than 6 years and still have.
In my view all the Hondas were good bikes but a touch bland. The CB1300 engine was based on the CBR Thou, so similar feel, but a there's a 6 speed box on the CBR.
As well as having more character, the Falco has been more reliable than any of the Hondas, and they were all good. Build quality is also very good, but spares can be sometimes be awkward, but as I have hardly ever had to buy anything other than normal consumables in more than 4 1/2 years, so it hasn't been a problem for me.
I think you will like the Falco when you get used to it.
Actually I have always liked the CB1300, and particularly the CB1300S in the same colours as yours. May try and buy one later this year when I finally get rid of the CBR Thou, although more likely to get a Blackbird.
Whatever I get, the Falco stays as my number one bike.

I deliberately steered clear of criticising the Honda, just because bikes are as much to do with personal taste, what you use it for and just whether you want the bike or not. I don't go for the "my bike is better than yours" shit. Too childish.
As I said, the Honda is a damn good bike, without any major flaws and I enjoyed riding mine, particularly when it was my main bike. I would not however, agree necessarily with the implication that it is better built than an Aprilia. Better built than a Suzuki or Kawasaki, perhaps but I did have a couple of QA issues. After many years of practice, the Japanese still dont do Chrome very well. I will say no more. BTW, I also have a 1998 vintage Triumph Trident 900. That is a really nice bike and the build quality would put any other bike manufacturer to shame. Plus the Hincley triple is just fantastic. But as I said, its all down to taste.

I sort of agree about Hondas feeling a bid bland for want of a better word, but what is it down to? When does a bike get made so well it becomes boring, how many interesting quirks can a bike have before it's character becomes an annoying design flaw?
