Faithfull Friend For Sale

Well the time has come ....I'm selling old red :smt009

I have four bikes at the moment and have just bought a van so I'm downsizing (sort of !!)

The bike has been a great friend, never letting me down and never missing a beat, regular servicing, newish x ring chain/sprockets, never done any trackdays ! and well looked after, 18k ish miles......has a couple of small scuffs on the side fairing when I lost my footing and fell over a mates garden wall ! ...at the mo' he's safely tucked up in storage at the moment but I thought I'd put the feelers out in case anyone was interested, it will probably end up on Fleabay ...but not for a month or so when the weather picks up.

Here's a pic ...The bike is now fitted with Leovince cans / PC3 / modified airbox (similar to renegade) / sargent seat (but I think my bro' wants that!)

What sort of price? Know someone looking for either a Falco or a Tuono.

well I'd like 2k ...but things being as they are at the moment I think £1800 min is a more realistic price eh :smt001

i do believe i can smell the Falco Vultures circling as well...

we do like a good corpse!


Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I've lusted after one of these for a while, but will need to polish up & sell my VFR to buy it, so if you're not in a rush I might be in a position to do a deal in the following few months. But I suspect some other lucky fellow will beat me to it. :smt010

"old red" aint going anywhere just yet :smt003 ...it's safe and tucked up in the garage for at least another month, I'm trying to hold off selling him.... but I have made up my mind, so soon as I get sorted I'll let you know.

as you say it's a lot of bike for the money....so much better looking than a mille and a future classic I think :smt002

Ok, cheers matey. As for the weather getting warmer, er, I think it could be a log wait :smt003 Unfortunately it looks like I'll be using my trusty VFR tomorrow though despite the snow (actually it's not that bad here in Shropshire -only 6 cm :smt009 )
Just to keep my appetite wetted, could you let me know a few more details. Has it had the shock replaced, as I know this is one of the Falco's week spots, and has it had any gearing changes. I understand this has a dramatic effect on the useability of a Mille, but wondered if this is necessary on a Falco, or are they geared differently to the std Mille?
Are this cans legal too - just wondered re MOT time, but I'm sure the sound lovely :smt020
Any wiring gremlins been attended too - I seem to recall there's one particular wiring mod most recommend making to improve charging but can't remember what without doing a search. I've had my fair share of probs with the Honda & it's reg/rec so am a bit tetchy about charging issues :smt003
Also has it got the std side stand, or have you replaced it with the more stable Suzuki stand, as I seem to recall is also recommended.
Anything else you've done would be usefull to know and come the time it would be good to have some pics of the scratches etc as I'm a fair way from you so will no doubt be doing all the preliminary buying q&A stuff through here.
Sorry, I'm a bit of an ordeal already , and haven't even got my bike up for sale - jeesh, what's with these Honda VFR owners :smt003 :smt002

Hi Rene.

I had an Ohlins shock fitted with remote preload adjuster but I've taken it off to have it re-valved to fit my Tuono (it cost me nearly £600!!) the original is back on and had only covered 3,700 miles before removal so it should be fine.

I can't remember if the cans are legal, it now has a really nice set of Leovince ones (not the ones shown in the pic) they have nice alloy badges I've not managed to pop rivet on yet....i'll confirm when I get a look, and yes they DO sound great (and not too "in your face" type great)...went through the MOT no problem :smt002

Gearing wise I went for 17-44 instead of 16-42 as I don't like fitting smaller diameter front sprockets, I think they put extra strain on the chain, it has enough to cope with on a pumping Vtwin without adding to it.

Charging is fine and I've never had a problem, I did the charging wires mod just for peace of mind ...I put it on a optimate regular anyway.

Sidestand is the original with a small extra 10mm foot welded on (due to the extra rear height the Ohlins made)..but never had any problems as I pick my parking places with care!

Forgive my ignorance , but what does the PC3 & Renegade achieve. I've got a K&N on my VFR and know the benefits of them, but wondered what real world difference you actually achieve with the PC3. More power & smoother delivery I take it? Will it need resetting by a Dynojet specialist after fitting the Leo Vince cans, or does it make no difference in transition from the current ones.

oh my :)

ok, the PC3 will have , I assume, been set up with the leo cans - so should not need redoing

what it does is to sort the fuelling out so that the right amount of fuel is delivered when the engine needs it - so enabling better pick up etc - smoother and better performance

the rene airkit is a a different ort of performance mod - it helps the engine to breathe easier - so increasing pick up and performance

in simple terms, and these are not accurate figures but, the stock derestricted falco has an air box capicity of 800 cc. obviously that is not enough at peak demand to feen an engine of 1000 cc
The rene and evo airkits change the effective capacity of the air box to unlimited/1400 cc - so no air starvation problems
You also get a nice little induction roar as you open the throttle :)

am sure others will add their corrections/views/thoughts shortly

To answer the simple - "Is it worth it" question - HELL YES!
