Wolfman Beta Tail Bag

#1 Post by Aladinsaneuk » Fri Jan 16, 2009 12:53 pm

after changing my Falco around a little bit, my old aprilia luggage system was no longer right for the job - so I started looking around for something suitable

I decided to buy a wolfman beta bag - http://www.wolfmanluggage.com/Tail/BetaRearBag.html

I got mine from http://www.windingroads.co.uk/ - I exchanged a few emails with Martin from there and was given excellent advice - and that is always good to get - expert advice!

Main reason I wanted this kind of solution was due to my high cans, and keeping the centre of gravity right...

anyway, it arrived - cost including delivery was £105

took a little while to fit as there are a lot of straps - the advice frfom martin was to put stuff in the bag - that makes it a lot easier by the way.

the rear is secured with a strap around the tailsection. the front uses two straps, normally to the footrests but as i do not have those, i used the rear subframe - these tension up to keep everything tight and secure

the bag has two straps at the back and on the top allowing the very easy option of securing a tent in a bag or other items. (Tent at the rear for me, folding chair at the top!)

There are multiple bungee D ring points on the bag as well for securing just about anything else you fancy

The bag has one large central chamber - in the photos above that has an inflatable mattress in it, and a sleeping bag - I think that has used about half the space in that compartment.
The bag has two side compartments as well - generous size - I was easily able to fit a small stove with gas cylinder, canteen, cup and other cooking equipement - and there was still space left.

The quality is very good - the design is excellent and the bag has been well put together.

Only downside, and this is common to all soft luggage, it is shower proof only - ie, bin liners all round for for rainy days if you want to ensure your socks stay dry!

I researched this kind of luggage fairly extensively - I think for my needs, and maybe some other folks as well, this is the best tail bag out there

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Funny isn't it I use an oxford tank bag on the rear hump.

Its tidier than that you have and it has a waterproof cover, cost was £47.

BTW yours touch the cans and also hide the indicators from the side, I think plod will love you if you get stopped.

Oh and take those nasty baffles out :smt005 :smt005

Lol the baffles are there untill I try them out - the cans are loud with them in!
The bag is just rough fitted for now . before being used in anger they will be properly fitted and you may have a point about the indicators!

The Oxford tail bag would not carry what I need

MMM the trouble with all these bags is that the more they hold the more you want to carry, so its all a bit of a mess really :smt005

I can get a 4'x6' airbed in rubberised fabric in my Oxford bag as well as a weekends clothes/toiletries. the only thing seperate is a sleeping bag.

well, tbh peter I did go out and do a proper fit tonight

I lowered my exhausts by one inch and then packed the tail bag with what I will use for a week away - it all fitted in, and that included my luxury item - a folding chair :)
and - i need to carry a tent....

My intention was to get all my gear there, at the back of the bike - like i had a pillion passenger - even though i will have a baglux tank bag that will only have waterproofs and travel documents in it :)

Canoe bags. Bloody brilliant bit of kit for keeping everything waterproof.

errm and for keeping you afloat and your weapon and kit completely dry whilst submerged when youre doing a river crossing at night during winter... should you ever feel the urge..
