Firestorm sidestand

#1 Post by IsleFalco » Sun Jan 11, 2009 8:33 pm

I have heard that the Firestorm sidestand fits the Falco and improves matters over the OE thing. Has anyone fitted one? Any year do the trick? Does it need modifying?

Cheers.

Hi M8 - more peeps will be along soon I expect. I fitted the firestorm stand recently (after buying the VTR SP1 stand first by mistake). The stand leg is pretty much a straight swap but to get the cut-out switch to work you need to drill a small hole to reposition the switch pin. Great improvement on the original.

This lazy bastid posted first, then searched. Yep, plenty of good advice. I might just go for it and get one.

glad she has because i don't

first thing i did - and bought the stand before I collected the bike

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Vulnerability - oldest trick in the book - she puts herself in a risky situation, safe in the knowledge that we'll rush to protect her.

Yes she has got confidence in the stand - confidence that it will help her gain the attention she's after .... bikini helps too ....

I bought a used Firestorm stand on ebay for £11 including delivery, and it certainly provides better stability through the improved footprint and lean angle. However, the shaft is thinner and it flexes more, so I don't think I'd let that charming young lady drape herself on my bike, for her own safety.

What you all really mean is that, after serious "Risk Assessment", you'd all rather let her drape herself all over you as she would then be much safer than in her existing position relying on a Falco stand to keep her body intact. :smt017 :smt002 :smt003

Sadly the case does not hold up as she is on a US bike with a safe stand anyway, so you are all out of luck. :smt010

Neither did I.... until the day she went over. Lucky for me I had the panniers on at the time so it was only my pride that was hurt

I have bought a second hand firestorm stand, plus the cut out switch. I will fit it this weekend. I am hoping the switch will just connect up where the existing one does, negationg the need to modify the replacement stand to accommodate the original switch. No doubt, I will find this info out if I search for it...

Mine came with the Honda switch but I opted to retain the Aprilia one and drill a new hole for the location pin. More than one way to skin a cat.

The bird is on a US falco uk one would have fallen :smt003

The firestorm stand is a good fit but the Honda switch if fitted wont work the cut out on the motor but will work the side stand light Islefalco :smt003
The only other problem is the stand will sit a little to forward on the falco stand bracket so you will need to put a blob of weld on the stop or fit a small allen bolt in the stand slot to stop the stand and make it sit at the correct angle. If you look carefully you can just see the allen bolt head in the top picture sitting against the stop just under the bottom edge of the switch. Image
