Every Aprilia engine is run up to full chat on the factory assembly line anyway. But I do agree that the motor should be run in hard.

Having said that I was very easy with the Tuono (1st new bike in 20yrs after all) and although the engine is superb it does use more oil than the Falco ever did. I'm convinced it's because I followed the running in procedure, so next time (if there ever is a "next" time) I will be harder on the motor, not silly but I'll use more revs without loading the engine too much

Buy a two stroke, you get to run it in every 1000 miles or so.. :smt011

I read that article with interest, as my Falco is only 200 miles old. On the runs I did I let it rev freely, but now wished I'd revved it harder. I'm not sure what oil is in the bike from the factory, but I'm seriously thinking of dropping the oil out and replacing it with mineral based oil to assist the running-in process.

Anyone know what oil comes in a Falco from the factory? And are there any of the old-style filters still in circulation (no pun intended)...?

Do you want to use mineral oil?

Might have to change all the rubber (artificial) seals

So the rubber seals in our engines (nitrile?) won't withstand mineral oil? Surely semi and fully synthetic oils are just derivatives of mineral oil, admittedly heavily reformulated and with lots of additives, or so I thought.

Citroens used to eat seals with the wrong oil in..... the braking system, which doubled as the hydraulic... on the BX's so I seem to recall. They used 'special' oil and if you put the wrong stuff in (say, DOT4 brake fluid..) it ate the seals.

I cant see mineral oil being a problem on an Aprilia engine apart from possibly the clutch plates. Dont they get upset and slip with the wrong 'sort' of oil?

Happy to be corrected though.

I read it

and think that he is talking some sense for some engines.....

but not for an injected machine I think - and, i have a power commander to sort all that lot out :)

and yes, the stealth falco is having its first major fettle of 2009

Renegade mille high mount cans are going on

following the advanced discussions about 2 into 1 and 2 into 2 exhausts I have done a lot of research and reading around

Most interesting point - when edwards was racing the mille, he used both exhaust configurations, depending on the track - some needing torque lower down, some needing grunt at the top end.
So - i decided that the best probable all round solution would be 2 into 1 into 2 cans - and lo and behold I found some.....

The back end of the bike is also having a small make over..... radical - moi?

the fairings are being changed in february - I hope... dependant on a few things that is!

nice thing is that before i took it off the road i did manage to get a few miles in for 2009.... only a couple of hundred but the new rear boot is sort of scrubbed in

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
