Bail outs

#1 Post by paddyz1 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 12:26 am

Why is it there are calls to bail out Jaguar/Landrover when it is owned by a foriegn billionaire? Why can't he put his hands in his pocket himself instead of us?
Don't get me wrong here, I would not like to see decent British people getting made redundant.

Tata only brough the company within the last year and now the company is looking for a handout and that is pissing me off.

Rant over

Come on be serious, how can you expect him to use his own hard earned money, when the Brit tax payer can bail them out?
All these sort of people have to do is threaten to pull out and they regularly win and keep their own money intact.
I do not want to see Brit car working jobs go either but these people really do take the piss.

It's the knock on effects the govt. is concerned about - suppliers and their suppliers
I was made redundant in October - my knock ons are - local garage down at least £10 - £15 a week, cafe/canteen down £10 - £15 depending where I buy the paper, Take-away down £18 as I don't have the 'mad thursday' anymore when I gets home late and can't be arsed cooking. Multiply that by the 22 of us in the village and it can make a difference.

Knock ons with a large factory would be well hoooge :smt009

your right what you say,the effect in my village when they shut rufford coll and many more where crippling after the first year when the redundancy had gone, the local pubs died over night. but if the goverment are so concerned about suppliers and jobs connected why did'nt they bail out the mining and steel industry which had a country wide effect not just one erea.

perhaps they wanted them shut eh.

Not sure whether these things help in the long run - but as one of Jaguar LandRover's biggest suppliers, we will be very happy for anything that ensures we have someone to see our stuff to.
We get no hand outs but survive on our own efforts - which would be completely fruitless without customers.

I would like to see some strings attached requiring JLR to diversify to include compact efficient vehicles (like to say including 2 wheeled but I am realistic). It would do them good in the long term.

It was exactly the same in the village of Kiveton, where I lived at the time, (you may remeber it from News at Ten during the Miners Strike), but people cheered up when the EEC provided pots of money for the regeneration of all the old mining areas after they were nearly all closed.
Kiveton were allocated a fair chunk of money and there were many local meetings to discuss what should be done with it. Ultimately there were plans for many exciting projects, including a large lake and yachting marina, with an extension to the part re-furbished Chesterfield Canal, to join up the two halves by re-opening the old Kiveton Tunnel. There was also to be new industry to help replace lost jobs, a new local swimming pool, new parks and housing, etc. etc..
15 years on we had achieved nothing other than a few new private housing estates on the old NCB land, evidently the Government were still sitting on the European money and it was still available, it had just not been allocated yet and certainly had not been spent on other things as many local people had suggested.
Still waiting, :smt017 although a couple of years ago they finished off levelling the old slag heaps and put in two fishing ponds, so the old ex miners have somewhere to pass the time of day.
Who said politicians don’t have hearts of gold ??????
They should have, they've nicked plenty off us!
