Was just perusing the Giveaway Of The Day site, theyve got a widget programme for FTP.. Dont ask.. however..
In the comments for the product (which is free for today but needs a bit of faffing about to set up the registration) there was this little gem
You can accomplish the same thing using Windows Explorer. In the address bar (turn it on: View|Toolbars|Address Bar) enter the FTP address in the following format:
ftp://userid:password@website/optional-path
This will create a link in Windows Explorer to the FTP site and treat it as a folder on your computer. You can then drag the icon from Explorer (from the root or a folder) to the desktop while holding down the CTRL-SHIFT keys to create a shortcut. You can create a different icon for each folder on the site if you want.
Now you can drop files into the desktop icon and it will show up on the website. If you have a lot of FTP sites, put them all into a master folder.
If you want super easy access without closing windows to get to your desktop, put the folder/links into your quick launch folder
C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
in the hidden section. Just drag your file over the Quick Launch bar over the expansion arrows that will pop up your master folder or links and drop the files.
This could be useful if you wish to save a lot of 'stuff' to your own webspace and saves a lot of faffing about opening programmes, typing passwords, etc
Thought i'd pass it on anyways.

hate to say it, but that kind of ftp access has been in ie and others for years....
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Yup. I'd never done it thru a desktop icon before though, but with hindsight makes complete sense, you can create an auto login ftp thru the addressbar anyway so using that in a shortcut takes it further to the point you dont need to open IE at all..
Here's the link to the Site

The program is available for $29,95, but it will be free for our visitors as a time-limited offer.

Ah but you most probably do...
Have you got 'free webspace' with your ISP?
However megabytes or gigabytes of 'place to back up your important files' to?
BT? They do..
Thats the perfect sort of thing to use what Alad and I are waffling on about for.. simple drag and drop uploading of your important things to a place away from your computer.

access from anywhere with simple internet access

I just save stuff that matters on a memory stick and CD. Works for me. I have wizards to tell me what to do next!
