ipods and software

I have heard that the ipod does not play mp3's. It will only accept music downloaded from iplayer etc.

Is this correct. If not can anyone tell me wht the score is with ipods.

is bullshit - both my itouch and ipod allow me to dump my own mp3s etc on and run fine

PURCHASED via itunes is a little different, but you can still burn them out etc

and when it comes to an mp3 player, buy ipod - they are the best i think

and itunes is good/simple

Woman just bought iphone but she has no pc, so i had to install itunes on mine. Its an invasive piece of shit. You have to register this pc with that phone etc and ask permission from the apple site before you do any-fucking-thing aaaaaaaaagggghhhhhhh. Blocked the whole thing from acessing the web and all i can do i drag mp3's over most of which get copied twice.

I prefer to decide how and what i copy on my pc thankyouverymuch. I'm buying 2 mp3 players for chrimbo and they'll be cheap chinese knockoffs thanks to ishite

actually pierre - take time and research itunes - use file/import or file/add folder to copy the mp3s to it - it works then

and yes, the iphone is quite specific about its security - but in view of the fact it has all your data on it, and is always online so to speak - better to be safe I fear

Hope your lad enjoys his ipod Paddy.

I've nothing really against them per-se but it really winds me up that although there are so many different MP3 players out there and many other devices that will play MP3s, the media only talk about ipods and when it comes to providing connectivity the only device considered is the ipod (or should it be hypod?). What's more, these hypods seems somewhat overpriced compared to other MP3 players.

You might have guessed that our house is an ipod free zone ... me and my sons use the MP3 facilities on our phones ... although the mrs is still in the last millenium when it comes to music technology.

I know what you mean andy, but - they are a typical apple product - they just work

I have had several ipods now - now on an itouch but my previous one lasted 3 years of serious abuse - and is still working...

the software is simple, the sound quality is good, they are easy to use and look pretty good - not so much hypeod but - ronseal - does exactly what it says on the tin

(I will be selling the itouch in april - when i finally get my iphone!)

Kids wanted to get me an Ipod last christmas - I objected on the grounds that I'd then have to learn how to put music on it! Tho I do begin to think I may have to find out... so tell me, if I have an MP3 player (who needs a fancy named item?) how easy is it to put the music from my own CDs on it?

Very easy - you can use Windows Media player to rip the CD's to MP3 format on your hard-drive, then you can either just copy them straight onto your MP3 player (plugs in to the USB port and behaves like a data pen), or use Windows Media player to send them over. To rip, you just open WMP, select the "Rip" tab at the top of the screen, and stick a disc in. It even labels all the tracks for you direct from an internet catalogue of CD's and their contents.

You might even be able to rip straight to the MP3 player, but I've never looked at that.

Ipod is just as easy - at the end of the day, both WMP and iTunes are just library systems, that allow you to catalogue and transfer music to an external device, they're just made by different companies. Not sure if iTunes can create MP3's, but uses their own format (AAC?), which tends to be compatable with a lot of MP3 players as well.

I've had both - MP3 is basic but very good at what it does, iPod (Nano, I've got) has a bit more functionality (and it's easier to see the screen when running to change albums and the like, hence the reason I've got it).
