Is this final proof that old age is catching me up?

I put the OE exhausts back on and decided that:

1. the bike is too noisy with the race exhausts
2. I prefer the sound of the induction bark to the banging of the exhaust
3. The bike runs smoother and better with the stock cans.
4. I am going to get rid of the race cans

I am 50 in January. I think that provides all the evidence that is required.

Hmmmm. What race cans do you currently have, IsleFalco and how often do the Steam Racket sail to the IoM?

They are Carbon Can Co jobs and were on the bike when I got this one. They are very loud and don't have the facility to fit db killers. When I bought this Falco it was in a bit of a sorry state but had only covered 3300 miles. It had these cans on but had not been derestricted, which was a bit odd. I had a custom chip put in and this unleashed the bikes potential (as well as the usual derestrictions) but after I put the stock cans on just as an experiment, the bike seemed a lot happier. To be honest, I don,t miss the noise either. the idela solution would be some race cans with removable baffles, but I am not that bothered to justify the expense. There are other mods I would like to do first.

I know that I will truly be showing my age when I decide to sell the bike. That is not about to happen any time soon although I do like to ride my Triumph as much as the Falco....

Oy - there you go again suggesting that we more mature riders can't cope with the relatively comfortable bars that are on the Falco.
Apart from the fact that they are at the wrong angle, they are fine for we pentagenarians.

Some of us realised that if and when we get a bit of wrist ache (from too long riding the Falco ...... honest) it's due to the angle of the bars. I'm not saying everyone may find this but for me, they are too square-on and would be more comfortable raked back a bit.
TBH I think that is a lot of the reason that people change the bars for higher ones - they just haven't really twigged what the actual problem is (I know other decrepit souls have changed them to save their bad backs ... eh Pete).

The problem in just twisting them back a bit is that they have a locating screw that screws into the yoke and, besides securing them, sets their angle.
At some point I do plan to have a look at how this could be modified.

Sounds like the cans just needed repacking and the whole set up doing properly.
The Aprilia engine usually takes very well to upgrading as in it's normal state it is restricted down by the factory to meet the noise regulations at around 5k as well as the original running in restriction you found fitted.

I have to go with Andy on this one, as I am quite a bit older than both of you.
Race cans on because I like the sound, but did leave the baffles in as I have not worked out what they do yet.
The cans and a K&N kit got rid of the flatspot you get with the standard cans, so won't be putting the latter back on.
However, like Andy, I still had the stock cans on when I was, er lets say Over 50.

Then again I might be showing my age in a different way as I am one of the few people with stock indicators.

Yes you are OLD and obviously "old age" has caught up with you Trev
Quiet exhausts?.......................on the island?
Lets get together again this this June (yes I know.....best laid plans and all that etc..... we are staying in Foxdale again with Sue & Rich Colquitt) for a drink or three and I'll let you have a blast on the "T" with my shortened and cored stock exhausts.........they make your ears bleed!!

That'll put a bit of life back in ya (lol) I'm "only" 48 this time so it looks like I've got at least another 2yrs before I get officially "old" then?

As for the noise of loud cans, I love it. It's just my neighbours that don't. They have already moaned about the Navigator, but that is quite a bit louder than the Falco.

Good news is I am not the only one with loud V twins. My neighbour across the road has got a TL1000R with race cans.

At age 51 I was riding a Pan European and a ZG 1000 Concours.

That got boring so at 61 I now ride a Triumph Sprint and a Falco.

Maybe at 71 I'll move on to a Daytona 675 and RSV-4.

No matter your age....If the cans are too loud, you're too old
