Arai Chaser for £30?

#1 Post by homertrix » Wed Dec 03, 2008 12:49 pm

We've picked up a cracking offer currently going on at XSMoto:

http://www.motorcyclegold.com/product/1 ... ilver.aspx

Not sure how long it will last of if its an error on their behalf; however £30 for a £300 is a cracking Christmas present!

obviously a typo...... but I've ordered one as well. We'll see how many they send out before the penny drops. Looking at the T&Cs there is a "get out" for them in para 2.2 and 2.4

Waiting for Santa :smt114

It's going to be really funny if we all meet up for a rideout - matching bikes AND matching helmets... :smt004

And I thought I'd done really well earlier this year when I got an Arai Chaser for £259, when it was listed at £350 plus. :smt013 :smt013
Still even if you do all get one for £30, at least mine will be a different style! :smt001

I'm not counting my chickens yet Howard, surely someone's going to spot that there's been a run on Arai Chasers in Camouflage Graphite pretty soon and start questioning it...

Well it had to happen, I've just had my payment refunded in full to my PayPal account

The Reason...........................No Stock (he's either lying (probably) or I got my order in too late and he's sold em all (unlikely))

No direct contact from XS Moto though which is dissapointing, it's not my fault they made a mistake is it?

They've spotted the mistake and changed the price on the website :smt010 I've not had any confirmation other than the payment and order receipt.

Hmmm... no refund yet. He's probably been so swamped it'll take him a day or two to catch up!

It does depend on the exact time it became a binding contract and if it did.
Almost exactly 3 years ago I bought my Alfa 156 at an absolutely ridiculous price because the dealer had advetised it at the wrong price on two web sites, one being their own the other being Auto Trader plus their mag.
Looked to be too good to be true as it 8 months old, was the top spec. model and cost nearly £24k new.
The car had previously been on sale at the Derby branch of the same dealership for nearly £17k. The new 159 was due out in a couple of months and it did not sell there, so they moved it to the Halifax branch and advertised it at £10,450. Went up the first day it was in Autotrader, agreed a good deal on my part ex first then the salesman said what price did you see it in the advert, so I showed him the printed copies off both websites and he nearly choked. Went out the back checked on their own site to confirm and came back mumbling about having to change his part ex price as it looked like they were losing money. I turned to the wife and said let's go and buy that other Alfa we looked at this morning, (showed him the advert, but it was down in Kegworth and we hadn't been anywhere near it!).
Moaned on that it must have been some sort of a scam and I had travelled all the way up there and agreed a deal in good faith, and had not come to be treated this way then started to walk. Got the don't be hasty approach and the "can't we talk this over", so I knew I was in with a good chance. Eventually he offered my the almost the agreed deal if I signed today, I acted upset, but it was still a grand more than the PX offer I'd had a few days earlier, so I got over it. I paid there and then by Switch and signed the invoice.
Couldn't keep a straight face when I walked out.
Then the phone calls started, first the dealer principle, explaining there had been a big mistake and I must have realised the price was wrong.
Contacted Autotrader to ask them if they would let me use them as evidence if they tried to back out.
Rang Trading Standards who told me if I'd signed up it was watertight.
Then I got a few more threatening ones, saying I was the con merchant, I must have known the price was wrong and had taken advantage of them.
These stopped when I told them I worked for a Local Authority had talked our Trading Standards people who had told me I had a watertight deal and they would take action against the dealership if they tried to wriggle out. Got a few more "nicer" calls asking if I would like to contribute half the difference between the two prices, er, let me thing about it ..... NO.
Finally went to pick up the car, which had just had an oil change and not the full service promised, and the bunch of flowers for the wife supplied with every deal also got "forgotten".
:smt005
I didn't mind too much!
Has turned out to be probably the best car I've ever had.
How many times do you get to stuff a car dealer?
Hope you have similar luck!
