Allen key size for swingarm

#1 Post by bigun » Tue Jan 30, 2007 5:27 pm

Hey up,

i'm doing the swingarm change this week while I'm off work. Everything is stripped, exhausts etc (only took me an hour to do it all) and I'm ready to literally take the spindle out. I've got the shimano tool, getting a 27mm socket tomorrow but need to know what size the allen bolt is. I tried a 15mm earlier but that was too big.

Help appreciated! :smt001

Yep 14mm is the correct size. It's the same one that fits the steering stem nut. At a pinch you can got to the Falco toolkit and use the other end of the spark plug spanner.

Ho, hum another shitty day in paradise!

14mm - Pop down to halfords, they do 14mm hex sockets.

I've just been into my garage and seen a 14 allen key sticking out of my swingarm pivot and wondered what it was for.

This thread explains it and also the fact why my feet are filthy from walking round my garage at 11pm pissed :smt017

Bigun,

I can't remember if you're using the curvy or the pointy swing arm.

If it's the pointy one and you need a spare undertray to hack I've got one for sale for £30.

Its the curvy one so no probs. Thanks m8.

All went on and bolted up yesterday............half an hour too, I'm sure things aren't meant to be this easy! Oops, they're no, I'm sure the swingarm is locked in place. Either that or I'm being weak and can't compress the suspension. With not having any wheels at mo (getting powdercoated) I can't just pop the wheels on and check. Gonna have a play today and see if I've clamped something up too tight. If not, I'll be back!

Cheers!

Dunno, whoever put my bike togehter did it properly. Never had any issue with seized bolts/pipes, anything. Got the rear header loose and a little bit of wd-40, good angle of attack and in it went, no bother.

Got my wheels back now too, lurrrvly!! Tyres tomorrow and it should all be done so photos will be posted.

Off to see if I can sort the 'locked' swingarm now.

Did you change the shock as part of the job?

Prolly a bent shock then :smt011

Only joking I'm just jealous had mine in the shed now for about a year and no sign of getting near putting it on yet.
