Next question! (Monitor)

#1 Post by BikerGran » Tue Nov 18, 2008 11:06 pm

I've been lent a Dell flat screen monitor that my daughter's not using, haven't got any software for it but it's working fine except that I can't find any way of adjusting the brightness or contrast - when I press the usual button on the front it only gives me options for positioning and image settings etc etc, not brightness or contrast - is this normal with a flat screen?

I've been to the Dell site but couldn't find any help or a driver there, well the monitor is about 4 years old, I suppose to them that's obsolete!

BTW it's a Dell E197P

start with the driver

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/do ... eid=160191

then once installed, right click on desktop and select properties and you should be able to adjust things then

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Mine all have buttons on the front for adjusting brightness and contract.

Are you sure the button on yours isn't multi function?

What about a look on Dell's website for support. May be a pdf of instructions.

ps - just read this and by 'all' I mean 'both' :smt003

Mine's an E196FP, which is a possibly little bit newer, not sure.
Has yours got the 3 buttons at the bottom RHS.
If so do not press the LH button with the square dispay image on it that goes into the positioning screen, just press the middle one of the three with the " - " sign on it. Use the " + " button to toggle to the contrast and brightness settings.
Select the one you want to change.
Hit the left hand button again, then you can use the + and - buttons to adjust the settings.
Hope this works on yours.
Good luck!

Thanks folks - used the buttons as you suggested Howard - I was starting with the LH button!

As for the driver - everything else seems to be working fine, do I really need the specific driver? What difference will it make?

no, you don't - but I assumed that it was a software controlled screen, with no buttons - in which case you would have done :)
