bearings

#1 Post by Aladinsaneuk » Sun Nov 09, 2008 2:54 pm

http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/

if you know what you need, above are good - i ordered a new swing arm bearing from them on friday morning, cost 8 quid all in - official aprilia part from aprilia yorkshire should have been £19.83 including vat and carriage.

it arrived on saturday morning - so, very pleased

if folks hunt around i think there is a list of what replacement bearings fit what.... if not, is about time we had one!

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I source mine from Brammer - they have a lot of local offices so often you can just pop in and pick up what you want - sometimes they have to get them in but they've always managed to get things quickly so far.

cool

i also forgot to say that i paid by paypal - handy to use up some of my spare funds that way :)

Dare one suggest that we actually have a list of what bearings can be replaced by what etc? I know i PM'd you to track a couple down, but as a resource for the future it might be useful?

just a thought - and then present it as a fait acomplit to af1 and then watch it get ignored....

Worth copying this to "links" I'd suggest?

Once you have the reference number from the side of the bearing most (if not all) bearing stockists will be able to get you the right replacement bearing rather than using either Aprilia or these other companies mentioned

I use a small local company and they try as hard as they can to keep as many of the std sizes in stock just for the local biking community

One of the first things I learnt as an apprentice engineer (all those years ago) was.............never go to a motorcycle shop to buy a bearing!

Our stores (we made mining equipment back in the day) had virtually every single bearing used in a motorcycle. From Brit bikes to my Yam RD400 we always managed to find the right one.

So it's well worth getting hold of the local yellow pages and finding your local bearing shop. Pound to a penny they can help you out and you'll save a fortune, not only because they don't have the huge mark up of Aprilia etc... but you'll save on the postage as well as having the nice warm inner feeling that comes from supporting your local companies

Here endeth the sermon! :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Even if I say so myself what a damn useful thread this has been.
I have no loc bearing shop within 20 miles so the web is ideal for me but the options are there for folks
