New York....

#1 Post by ligloo » Mon Oct 27, 2008 3:40 am

OK I'm just back, jet lagged and wide awake hence this boring thread...

What a place though! how can you love someplace and hate it at the same time?

It really is the city that never sleeps, so wish I was there as an adult without a kid lol, it's buzzing like I've rarely seen and I've been to a few mega big cities. The people are actually really friendly, I'm sure its anti social folks like me that give new yorkers a bad name!

It's seriously expensive for the US, not a lot of bargains to be had and drink is extorionate. Cab drivers are a PITA about tips, my yank cousin recommends bumming them off lol and in general the 'tipping' is a BIG menace!

Food is fantastic, the place (architecture) itself is impressive, the shows are great.... but will skin you unless you want to queue for 4 - 8 hours for cheap(er) tickets.... 8 dollars for a coke or a cuppa is not good value, nor imo is 4 outside the hotels

Rock on Chinatown and the ' hidden shops' with the fake 'almost 100% real look goods' and the porters at the hotels called Hector who save you a fortune lol

Oh and stop slagging the yanks, I met up with my lost long relatives and now consider myself part yank ... i'm going to win the quiz from now on (even tho I got the NY one wrong today :smt012 )

Oh and the $150 for the stretch limo to the airport was well worth it, sorry mum :smt005

PS Gio would do well there, he could see above the crowds without paying extra for a good view...

I'm off to NY on 16th Nov - just for a week.
Doubt if I'll see that much of the place - going to a conference for work .... but I'll get a bit of time to look round - I'm sure.

Glad you enjoyed it.
