IT job and cv help

#1 Post by lazarus » Sat Oct 25, 2008 11:30 am

Long story this but my daughter has hitched herself to this 30 year old who is a really nice guy but is short on self confidence and has had never had much get up and go. To give you an idea, he got a first in computing at Reading Uni and it still took him 6 months to find a job and that was with a dead end company.

I want to try and help. His problem is that he rarely if ever gets to the interview stage so there must be something wrong with his CV. He doesnt know what and I cant advise.

When I was made redundant, part of the package was a contract with an outplacement consultancy - fancy name for an outfit that helped you write a CV, trained you in interview technique, and provided a job club, typing facilities etc. Anyone know of a good London based outfit who could do the same for this lad?

http://www.soon.org.uk/cvpage.htm may be a start

i adapt my own cv from a generic one to focus on what I believe are the key points in the job description

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
