New oil filter size

#1 Post by FalcoJock » Mon Oct 06, 2008 3:15 pm

Hi Folks.

I went to get a new oil filter so I could change the oil this weekend. My Aprilia dealer said Aprilia have changed the dimensions of the filter for better flow. It means a new housing end cap for the longer filter. Has anyone fitted this?

I haven't looked at the new end cap against the bike, but it looks a lighter colour and might be a bit ugly. Is it necessary - I wasn't aware of a flow problem.

P.S. I passed my IAM bike test on Saturday (had to brag). They have improved my riding skills a lot - I'd recommend doing the course.

The serving policeman (gulp) who did the test is a bike enthusiast, so made it a fun ride and good experience (within the law of course).

Well done on the IAM pass. It's on my list of things I really must do.

I can relate to your experience though having taken a Bikesafe course. Those Police Bikers can certainly ride.

As for the filter question - I intend to continue using the original size filters to avoid this issue. I got a stock in recently. :smt003

Here's the link to the info about the new oil filter and the discussion we had about it last year:

Hi, I recently bought a new filter kit only to discover my bike had already been fitted with the larger filter by the previous owner.
I was quoted 18.75 for the "kit" from a dealer here in North Wales. The kit contains a Filter, cover and longer capscrews.
Can't see it behind my bellypan so can't comment on the colour.

Well done on the IAM test pass, i did it about 4 years back.
It really does imprive your riding skills, and is well worth recommending.

I've put the longer filter and new end cap on with no problem, after a while you don't notice it's there.

I've just bought a small stock of the old size filters from e-bay. No objection to having a bigger one (f'nar!), but I'm reluctant to order anything from Aprilia as I'm still waiting for bits I ordered at the end of August.
