Road crap

#1 Post by PeteL » Sun Sep 21, 2008 9:55 am

Been commuting over an A road to work for a year now and for the whole year this road has been under large scale constuction/improvement. Dont want to council bash as Im sure it will be much better than proviously, however, it took me 3 hours and ££ of products to remove the millions of tar spots from the bike :smt013 :smt013 :smt013
I want recompense for my time and £....sorry just having a rant.
Then in a month or so they will start wet gritting the roads with corrosive material that will again take my time and ££ and ultimately contribute to the demise of my lovely bike, reducing resale value.
Cant we do anything about this, apart from buying a winter hack??

:smt082 @ Kiwi

A hack does seem to be the favourite/logical/safest answer.

Hmmmm :smt017
Well, we'd have to have a forum poll as to whether you'd be allowed to or not :smt014
And then Nooj "the Enforcer" :smt027 would be despatched with his hacksaw to remove a body part :smt003

I'm talking 1-2 years perhaps and I promise to abide by the poll results :smt003

The Missus and me use this guy, a chum of ours: http://www.allyearbiker.co.uk/ We don't bother cleaning our bikes any more, we get this done twice a year and each time the bikes come up looking like new again.

If you have to ride on crappy roads maybe it's worth trying to extend your mudguards. The front one is woefully short and a hugger may help at the back.

Dunno - I ride a winter hack when the roads are bad... :smt003

I'm sure a Google will turn one up if you look but those I have seen aren't a whole load better than nothing. It may pay to improvise something yourself.

Pyramid plastics do fender extender. Think they do huggers too. I've got a hugger on mine, no idea who made it though, was on there when i bought it, so somebody must make 'em

If you look closely PeteL you may be able to see I fitted a mud flap just under the oil cooler to protect my bike from mud crud and tar, it may not look cool but it has served me well my bikes underbelly is in great condition considering its all weather use.

Not a bad idea, I was contemplating something similar a while ago.
