C-Plus' Website RIP

#1 Post by D-Rider » Wed Sep 10, 2008 7:06 pm

I don't know how many of you have noticed this yet, but C-Plus' excellent Falco website has slipped into history.

Kurt (C-Plus) built up one of the best Falco resources on the internet but lack of support to help him run it has led to it passing into history.
I'm sure many will agree that it is a very sad loss.

So, Kurt, if you happen to read this:

Thank You for what you provided for us - it has helped and inspired many of us - particularly with the modifications we have done.

Some of you may be aware that we did have some discussions with C-Plus a while back when he first mentioned he may let his site lapse. At that time he decided to keep things going but hoped to get some practical help in running the site.
Recently I noticed it was under threat again but just never found the time to talk with C-Plus about it.

Will the Phoenix rise again:
Well the last time I visited C-Plus' site I was greeted by a message that it was closing that day (or night as it was then).
I stayed up till 3am rescuing what information I could ..... which is most of it :smt003 .
I'm thinking that although the website format doesn't really fit what we are able to do as a forum, I might be able to post up the information in the Aprilia Technical part of this site as C-Plus attributed info.
Before doing so, I'll try to contact C-Plus as a matter of courtesy to check that he's happy with this - I hope he'll see this as a bit of a tribute to the legacy he has left the Falco community.

That sounds like a great idea Andy, I was still a member until just before it folded and was there before I first came to the original Flco forum. If you do read this Kurt, very many thanks for the work you put in on a brilliant site. When I first got the Falco this was absolutely invaluable to me. If Kurt is willing to let us re-use his info. on here I am sure we could present it in such a way that we could make it a clear tribute to the work he did.
Not checked yet but if he is still a member, could we PM him.

Maybe he has the website/content still available. I know a little something about websites and computers so if you need any help just PM me.

First i would like to thank C-plus for his former website. I think that its sad that all that information are lost.
D-rider if you talk to C-plus can´t you ask him if it is possible to gain acces to the site. When i installed the swingarm on my Falco i found a very useful article on the site, and made a pdf of the article. My idea is that if we could get acces to the site we/I could make pdf out off the articles and host it on my site or another site ,the main thing is that the articles are keept for the future.

You can se the article on my sitehttp://www.martinpoll.dk/diverse/swingarm.pdf

Yeah - don't worry Martin - I've rescued just about everything we need - but I will try to contact C-Plus when I get a bit of time - to get his permission to use the material and, if necessary, to get hold of any important things that may be missing.

When we knew his site might disappear Kwackerz and I discussed whether we could mount a rescue and thought about offering to host it - but then felt it wasn't fair to load the costs onto our site sponsor.
The idea of a website liked to this forum was very attractive but we came to the conclusion that all we could sort out at the time would be to take the info and post it in a technical part of this forum. I was going to contact C-Plus again to see if he would let us do this (I'd contacted him before when his site was previously at risk).
I've been a bit busy and had not got round to it in time but did notice the site about to shut - so grabbed the info.

I think it would be great if you could host the info - I think it does work better in the website format. Let's see if C-Plus is up for it.
With good links between this forum and your website I think that that we can put together the greatest combined Falco resource on the internet (as if we don't have that already :smt003 ).

Cheers
Andy
