HID Headlight conversion
I'm looking at doing an HID Headlight conversion but could do with some info on the subject. I think Tweaker is the only one on this forum who's done this conversion so any pearls of wisdom you can share Dave? like what's the right kit to buy and where do you get it? I know this subject has just been discussed over on good 'ol AF1 but lord it's hard going over there (anyone else find that? or is it just me)....they did a group buy but I missed the boat and besides the bloke who organised it flatly refused to send them over here.....no, thanks for that mate, no really.......so anyone else got any knowledge on HID conversions then?

Yeh, they're bloody expensive!TwinNut wrote:I'm looking at doing an HID Headlight conversion .......so anyone else got any knowledge on HID conversions then?
Do you you really use the bike that much at night? The Falco lights ain't too bad, I've had lots of bikes with worse lights.
I'm sure I read something in a mag somewhere, some time ago, if I can find it I'll let you know.

.... well, I'm glad it's not just me - I think the AF1 has rather dropped in quality of late .... which is a shame as I've learned a lot from them and most of them seem to be a good bunch.TwinNut wrote:II know this subject has just been discussed over on good 'ol AF1 but lord it's hard going over there (anyone else find that? or is it just me)....they did a group buy but I missed the boat and besides the bloke who organised it flatly refused to send them over here.....no, thanks for that mate, no really.......
I think that a number of the regulars aren't posting so much at present. The ignoring of non USA posters seems a bit worse - not much interest in this forum moving and other stuff posted by those that aren't the "in crowd".
I posted a new thread there during this week and it's just changed into some incomprehensible nonsense - which I presume is about US TV. I know I've been known to hijack .... but from the second response absolutely nothing else!
Hopefully it's just a bit of a low point and it will soon be back to form.
yeah - well maybe I was being a bit kind and giving the benefit of the doubt.paddyz1 wrote:I dont think so. In fact I think it has gone really shite over there. I noticed the ignorance over a year ago and to be honest it completely fucks me off. Reminds me of the manc shite.
At least we've got the ARS - good forum, good people, good help and a good chance we'll actually meet up from time to time!
I must admit that I don't spend so much time on AF1 these days
I spend more time just browsing now. every once in a while I post or answer a post but it has to be interesting in the first place. This is the better site methinksD-Rider wrote:yeah - well maybe I was being a bit kind and giving the benefit of the doubt.paddyz1 wrote:I dont think so. OK so the original question was about fitting a WW2 searchlight to the front of the Falco ... or something like that ....
BUT
The sidetrack started in the ORIGINAL POST by the ORIGINAL POSTER himself.
I rest my case ...

.... which, if i'm not mistaken, contains the supplementary question that many of us have been answering ....TwinNut wrote:I know this subject has just been discussed over on good 'ol AF1 but lord it's hard going over there (anyone else find that? or is it just me)....they did a group buy but I missed the boat and besides the bloke who organised it flatly refused to send them over here.....no, thanks for that mate, no really.......so anyone else got any knowledge on HID conversions then?

Hi Howard - only just seen your post. This outfit seem about the cheapest I've seen.
I did the dip beam only and fitting is pretty easy once you've found space for the ballast unit (it will go above the air duct on the left hand side). I also did the mod to keep the dip beam on. The light is truly amazing and the beam pattern remains the same. The big plus, as far as I'm concerned, is not the extra visibility at night (though it's a big bonus) but the fact that everyone sees you approaching much earlier - if you do the mod, you'll see what I mean! I can thoroughly recommend it!! If you need anything else just PM me - you're not a million miles away so I could always pop down if you need a hand.
Edit: Meant to add that Tim(son) has also done the mod but I don't think he's registered on here.
Cheers
