XXXXXX Like A YYYYYY

#1 Post by D-Rider » Tue Aug 19, 2008 1:43 pm

Kwackerz forewarning of the "Talk Like A Pirate" Day got me thinking.

There must be a lot of "Do Something" Like A "Something or Someone" out there.

I guess it's our mission to track them down!

So please make ready with your suggestions ..... quoting your source so that it's not just something you made up .... no, I don't care, if you make up a good one that we can all use in future conversations, just mark it as "NEW".

So to get us started:
Your turn now .....

Bangs like a belt-fed mortar (usually referring to one of the fairer sex) {some Fusilier I shared a room with}

Some (very) old colloquialisms:

Drinks like a fish
Smokes like a chimney
Flat-out like a lizard drinking
Dry as a dingo's donger (if you're this thirsty, you really need a beer!)
Mad as a box of frogs
As curvaceous as a sack of snakes (referring to the fairer sex)
Managing like a flock of seagulls (arrives in a storm of noise, flaps around squawking and crapping on everything, then vanishes)

There's a theme going on here .... not the original theme about phrases containing "Like A" .... but a theme none the less ....

So Joe, do we take it that you're something to do with ships or shipbuilding then?

There's always one who misses the point completely :smt005

No idea on the origins of these:

Bangs like a barn door in a gale (energetinc in bed)
Looks like a Bulldog licking piss off a thistle (exceptionally ugly person)
Has a face like a Violin (miserable, long faced person)
Piss like a race horse (to do lots of wee wee)
SHINY BIKE SYNDROME Motorcycle valeting and paint protection specialist.

Swears like a Trooper (Obvious?)
Chimfs like a Good 'Un (Whinges a lot)
Goes off like an Exocet Missile (Short fused temper)
Mad as a Fish with mudflaps (Obvious?)
Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly
