Triumph Tiger

#1 Post by Gio » Mon Aug 04, 2008 1:04 pm

Well after 2.3 months I think its time I did a bit of a writeup.

The bike in question is a 3 year old Tiger 955i in silver (boring I know), it came with all the luggage and with just 5400 on the clock its not run in. I paid £4500 which got me a full 6k service, MOT and 1 years road tax thrown in, plus 6 months warranty, excluding wear and tear.

It fires up 1st time everytime, even when I left the sat nav on for a whole week (doofus).

Riding impressions are its fun for such a lardy beast and very comfortable (yeah BMW something you should learn). The front end is a bit vague, as its got a rubbery feel, I imagine respringing and a change of oil will sort that.

It pulls in top gear from 30mph without any histrionics, but it runs out of steam at about 80-90mph with a top of around 120 which takes all weekend to attain (well it felt like it).

In the short time I've had it I've enjoyed embarrassing a few sports bikes on roundabouts and a few twisty bit of road. I'd dare say if you felt like it it'd be a doddle for a more experienced rider than me to get their knee down.

The other good things are the clocks, nice black on white dials, which are great during the day but at night with a green glow its not so good. Range is around 250 miles on 24 litres, and thats doesn't seem to make much difference with fast or slow riding.

Things I don't like are the vibes through the footpegs, (great for the blood flow tho) and it'd be better if it was a shaft drive.

Another thing is the so called ss exhaust system, its really bad for that with rust showing in a few places. I will at some point have a loud system fitted as it currently sounds really crap and I expect the engine will need remapping.

I'll get a few pictures taken soon and put them up, but its currently very dirty (not washed since I got it, and I've done nearly 4k miles.

I'll add more next month after I've done more miles.
