Cheers chaps. Well wot a turnip for the books...
I only found out after I'd got back from Leicester to see the 04 Falco at Fasttrack Motorcycles. When I tried ringing them I got the recorded message saying they closed at 13:00 on Sat anyway.
So I reckon Monday morning will see me giving them a call. I can't get over there until the weekend so I will probably have to endure an uncomfortable week...
TBH it's well over a grand more than I was wanting to pay, but it is so tempting. Might have a few sleepless nights next week.
The one at Leicester was in good nick, but had a couple of odd scuff marks which detracted a bit. The Ohlins made the rear end feel really plush, and it's got Showa forks. Cheers D-Rider! The guy there seems a good sort; I wouldn't have any qualms buying a bike off him. It only arrived in the showroom on Thursday, so hasn't even been valeted, but still looks clean. He's open to knocking a few quid off, so that helps as well.
The one thing that puzzles me with the new '08 Falco, is how on earth do you put a value on it a few years down the line? Glass's or similar won't be any help, as they'll stop at '05, I'd think. Uncharted territory, I reckon.

4500 for a new 1000cc v twin with two years warrenty - hell yeah!

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
Nearly half the price they were when they first came out. A brand new 1000cc Aprilia for £4500, for feck's sake even a new Fazer 600 is more expensive than that!
Had a quick poke around George White's site, what new bikes could you get for £4-5k?
Suzuki DL650 V-Strom
Suzuki SV1000 naked (nice engine, but it's not an Aprilia)
Suzuki GSX650F
Kawasaki VN900
Kawasaki ER6-N
No contest really is it?

You could always go for this one of course
http://www.dba.dk/asp/soegning/detail.a ... d=46982267
Let's see now, how much does it cost
149 998 Danish kroner = 15 891.2236 British pounds
Hmm maybe not.

That'll be the special prototype one with the Unobtainium frame and flux capacitor.

Tyres .... well the MEZ3s were hopeless when new - so replacing them is a plus (be worth asking the dealer to do that as part of the sale)Gio wrote:I wonder if its been in some Italian corner, and what about the tyres bet they're shot after 4 years.
Electrics ditto.
Also with an 08 plate on it, will it comply with exhaust emissions.
Cynical yes I'd not buy anything italian lying about for 4 years
Wouldn't have much concern over most of the electrics either - maybe the starter relay. If stored poorly then check out the connectors - but I doubt there'd be any problems.
If I didn't have one already I'd be in that dealers as quick as I could with a wadge of cash in my hand (for the Flamingo one - not the solid silver one!)
Mostly Japanese electrics I think you'll find anyway. Should be nothing wrong with it, it's an Aprilia fer feck's sake, not a Ducati.
Bikes don't get tested for emissions as part of the MoT and it was manufactured before the Euro3 stuff came in, so that's errellellevenent.
Don't know about the tyres, if it was crated up all that time I doubt it would have been stood on them. How are they supported in the crates before they they have their final assembly and PDI at the dealer?

The significant electronic modules are the Engine Management ECU and the Instrument Pack.
The Engine Management is DENSO (Japanese - I work for them BTW)
The I-Pack is Veglia (Italian)
Not really worried about these - more likely issues would be connectors and relays that are known problem areas - but this bike won't have been exposed to the elements like ours have - so I'd not be greatly concerned.
..... and it comes with a 2yr warranty - so where's the risk !
