Need a rear tyre...

#1 Post by GRFalco » Wed Jul 23, 2008 3:40 pm

... I'm still running the original Metzelers :O). The front still has lots of life in it. Can I change just the rear? And what should I go for?

What's the best place in Norfolk?

Thanks

G.

get rid of both and go for something else.you'll think you've got a new bike.

I changed them both when my rear was shot .... but I wish I hadn't waited and changed them both sooner. I really wouldn't hang on to the front if I were you.

I was trying to save money by not changing sooner (when everyone said I should) and having made the change I really don't think that saving was worthwhile.

I presume you do mean the MEZ3 tyres - other Metzelers are reportedly OK.

I went to Pirelli Diablo Stradas - they were a revelation in comparison.
I've just fitted a Diablo Rosso front - this has been a noticeable improvement once again.

Get some decent rubber on there - tyres are maybe the most important component on your bike - needed for braking, accelerating, handling, suspension .............

Tend to agree with the others here. It's not a great idea to replace only one tyre with a different brand so unless you want to stick with the Metzelers then you really ought to go for a new pair.

Anyway - if you ring around you should get a better price by buying a pair.

Woody is the expert on tyre suppliers in Norfolk........ He gets a puncture every time he comes here. :smt002

This thread doesn't match the "I broke my wrist" one.

You sure you haven't trashed the bike? :smt098

go for conti road attacks

about 165 fitted in this area... (ie east anglia but with out the webbed fingers....)

and yes, do the pair thing :)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Change both tyres, definately.
Best upgrade ever, nothing compares to the change it makes over stock Metzies. Nothing. And I did many things :smt003

Conties are the dogs. Cannot fault them. I'm sure there are better tyres out there, but nothing at this price for sure.

I scrubbed all of the chicken strips on both (yes, front too) on track day, grazed the right Mille footpeg and the sidestand, so they can cope with quite a lot more than they are supposed to (don't forget they are supposed to be Road tyres, long distance etc).

I second that emotion. I am superconfident on my Contis, more so than any tyre I've had on the Hornet, so much grip!

sort of on your work commute - if you go the pretty way! hammonds tyres in halesworth and wheels and tyres direct in beccles both have a ride in ride out service....

(So yes, you sit down and have a cup of tea while they do all the work, and set your chain etc... works for me!)

Cheers for the heads up, I'm booked in tomorrow for a fresh set of rubber. I may get some tyres while I'm out too. :smt003
