I thought it quite good.
As a Soldier, I'd consider it a good idea.
Pen a letter to loved ones, aim it at the end of tour date, should something happen they get your last words of love / hate / indifference delivered right to their email account. No need for leaving a letter on the mantlepiece or anything like that.
The bit which is a bonus (and when the above comes into play), if you register, you can go in and edit, so when you sit there of an evening getting shelled and come up with a new verse of prose, you can go in add it to what you want to say. None of that 'Damn, forgot to add...' or if the end of tour does come, you can simply sack the letter.
I like it.
Other than that? Well, I guess just 'for fun' or even for reminders of things.. 'Tim dont forget to tax the car on...' or whatever
