answer it, is very simple :)

this is the inside of my dipswitch / left hand bar switch

now, I am not an electronic wizard, and do not have a working multimeter - and tbh, I would be really dangerous if I did have one, but, I digress

I want to wire my lights so the dip stays on all the time

am I correct in thinking that #1 is the common feed, #2 is the dip on, #3 is the high beam?

if so, do I just solder a spare lead from #2 to #3?

or from #3 to #4?

thanks in advance.... and cross posted to the normal places as I want to do this this evening!


Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Is there not pictures of what to do on my Mod, Mod, Mod thread? I posted them up somewhere recently, maybe on AF1?

Yeah - yours is the old style switch. When I posted up on this mod I did show how to do it with both the old and new switches.
Trouble is, for the old switch, I linked to the pictures that Tweaker originally posted up on this ..... and these now seem to have disappeared.

I think Tweaker is probably your best bet (cos I can't remember - but I could work it out if the switch was here) ....

I would say that if you moved / shorted the black wirre to terminal 2 or 4 (they are both connected anyway) that should give the desired effect.

If however you find that the main beam stays on and the dip goes on and off with the switch then you actually short / move the white wire from terminal 1 to 2 or 4

Try them for now and see if it works. If they are wrong, don't worry you won't damage anything, you've just connected two bulbs together with no feed.

Just out of curiousity, why do you want it to stay on?

My later model has got the 'always on' switchgear and I live in permanent fear that it will drain whatever meagre charge remains in the battery :smt009
In fact, the amount of times starting the bike causes the current to drop and reset the clocks gets to be a bit of a pain

For those of us that have the ability to choose when to use our lights, when we switch to Main Beam, the Dip Beam is switched off. Maybe that's the same for you too.
The mod keeps the Dip Beam on even when the Main Beam is turned On - this "fills-in" the light pattern a bit better - especially if you have an HID. It also gets rid of any HID brightness ramp up issues when switching from Main Beam to Dip.

Of course the ability to turn both Dip and Main beams off is retained .... for us that have this facility.

Can't say I've never had a dash reset but they have been few and far between. I have an optimate but don't bother to use it much.

perfect, thanks tweaker - now andy can update his post as well and we are sorted for the future :)

and yes, the reason why I want the dip beam to stay on is because I have an HID dip

that takes a moment to warm/get to full glow, so therefore it makes sense to me to have it on constantly. Also, the power drain of an HID compared to a normal bulb is a lot less - so I am not concerned - though I do also have an optimate!

and for those who have wondered about HID - just do it - I know other board members who have done it and all have said how good it is - the falco lights are pretty good before the mod, but after.... wow, illuminating :)
