I expect its cos of his various vanishing acts over the last year (ie not in the papers often enough)

he lost the leadership race against cameron, and is likely resentful. so creating a bit of dissention is probably welcome to him. no doubt he does believe the surveillance bit has gone too far, and the 41 days will be misused by dibble (surely the solution is to change the system so that what need to be done can be done quickly) as do many members of the public.

but causing a tory split is only likely to help elect another nulabour government. united we stand etc.
